Gene and Pat attempt to put an end to a series of train robberies. While riding along the way, Gene and Paspot two outlaws blocking a railroad track with wooden beams. Pat chases after the outlaws, Gene unblocks the railroad, and save the payroll train. Gene visits telegraph operator, Dan Parker, who believes Billie and Jeff Carter are behind the whole situation, because if the railroad is ruined, they'll gain possesion of the contract. Gene and Pat visit the Carters, and their foreman Blake Jessop, who treat the two like strangers. When Gene saves Billie from falling watertower beams, they sibs decide to cooperate with the two. Dan is the one who is really behind the robberies, and plans to continue the robberies, and put the blame on the Carters. Gene and Pat trail them to the boxcars, meanwhile Billie is handed a telegram, only to find the telegram was dated the same time Dan was tied up. Gene and Pat run into a runaway wagon. Gene finds the driver dead, with a silver arrow shot into him. Gene and Pat inform the sheriff, who tells them that a robber, Randy Edwards had just been released from jail. Randy's attorney tells Gene that the silver arrow is Randy's sign. It turns out that during Randy's sentence, his attorney assumed the title of his ranch, The Silver Arrow, this leads Gene to believe that Randy was framed. The attorney is forming a lynching for Randy, who is hidden by Gene. He ambushes a caf'e owner, and the sheriff clears Randy's name.

Gene is the foremen of the Jingle Bell ranch that was recently inherited by Torrey Palmer, who is wanting to turn a profit using modern methods of selling livestock. Seeing how Champion is Gene's horse, she decides to sell Little Champ to the highest bidder. Gene doesn't want to separate the two relative horses, he decides to scare Torrey away by spooking the place up a bit, and making her believe the ranch is haunted. She catches them in the act, and Gene and the hired hands are fired. After Gene leaves, Torrey is caught in a burning stable and rescue because of Champion's love for Little Champ. In the end, Gene and the hands are back, and Torrey decides to do things Gene's way.

Archaeologists, Bonnie West and Jonathan Diggers, uncover ""The Cross of Wealth"", the last of a series of ancient Spanish pieces that represent the Ten Commandments. Multiple job keeper, Pat, is now in charge of a putting the cross in a safe until she and Jonathan can get onto a train heading west. One of the Commandments:""Thou Shalt Not Steal"" is broken when a gang of outlaws steal the cross. Gene rides after the outlaws, and captures one of the outlaws because they know where the cross is hidden. Ron Corness, the ringleader hold the cross for ransom, but Gene has a plan to get it back that won't cost Bonnie a penny. Gene lets the outlaw he captured escape, and he secretly follows him to Ron's hideout, where they're all captured, and the cross is returned to Bonnie and Jonathan.

Pat convicts Corey Fordham of killing Duane Simmons. Judge Lockwood sentences Corey, but he escapes and plots revenge on Pat and Lockwood. Pat calls in Gene for protection, while he setd up his house like a living mousetrap with rope slings, and alarm signals, and a bulletproof vest. Gene convinces Pat to loan $5000 to Duane's widow Louise, and her children Billy and Betsy so they can stay out west. Corey's men kidnap Pat, Lockwood, and Billy, who came for the money. Corey gives his own trial and sentences Pat and Lockwood to death. Right when the getting gets good, Gene arrives in the nick of time and saves the three, and send the outlaws to jail.

Gene is the sheriff of a frontier town during a local election for the town's new mayor. Gene helps out candidate, Mary Sanders, who he thinks would be perfect for the town's new mayor. The other candidate is Thatcher Bowden, who decides to play dirty just to be the town's new mayor. Gene, Pat, and Mary's adopted harmonica playing son, Eddie are supporting her, but Thatcher's men are convincing the town a woman isn't cut out to be a mayor. Thatcher's men then kidnap Eddie, and claim that if Mary wants to see him again, she should drop out of the election. Gene and Pat ride out to Thatcher's place, who won't tell where Eddie is. When Gene hears a harmonica from a back room, he has all the information he needs. After a fight, Gene takes the outlaws in, and Mary is the new mayor.

Confederate veteran Muskets Corby, and Union veteran Hannibal Samson are sworn enemies. After Hannibal is robbed by a man in an old army uniform, Muskets is promptly accused. After Hannibal's horse is found in Musket's corral, he is jailed. Gene and Pat ride in to convince the sheriff to free Muskets, and promising to return the stallion. Afterwards, Hannibal vows to kill Muskets. Hannibal's lawyer is after Muskets's deed to his rnach if he's dead. In his office, Gene finds the army uniform the was worn by the robber. Gene then switches outfits with Muskets, and when the outlaws attack, Gene takes them by surprise. After they're taken in, Hannibal and Muskets give up their life long feud to share a treasure buried underneath the border of their ranches.

Gene and Pat are called into Jimtown to help Sheriff Dan Carter with the increasing number of crimes. When Gene and Pat arrive, they find an old ""Battle Axe"", Belle Anderson is the new acclaimed sheriff. With smooth-talking, a gang of outlaws, lead by Vasco are named the new deputies. Gene, Pat, and Dan try to convince her otherwise, but she is reluctant. Dan rounds up his old deputies to capture the outlaws. During a fight, Dan captures the outlaws, and brings them in, and regains his job as sheriff.

Gene and Pat are called in to bring in Mack Healy's gang of outlaws. Nate Tully is the town's gossip, and claims to not know a thing about the gang's whereabouts, but he is actually their ringleader. When Gene and Pat go to talk with Grandpa Dekker, he captures them, thinking their claimjumpers. His grandson lets them go though. Gene and Pat investigate Grandpa s mine, only to find they're almost ambushed by one of Mack's men. The outlaws capture Gene and the grandson, and knock grandpa unconscious. Amazingly, when Pat arrives, he is able to round up the outlaws and bring them in. As it turns out, Grandpa's mine is rich in copper.

Social leader, Emma Conley, is secretly a trapeze artist with a touring carnival. Fearing her past will be revealed to her neighbors, she hires two gunmen to drive the carnival out of town. After Gene discovers Emma's secret, he tries to convince her that this is nothing to be ashamed of, but to be proud of. Emma then tries to fix the whole situation, only to find the gunmen are planning to rob the carnival. Gene sees right past this, and brings the two in, and Emma is now no longer ashamed of her hidden talent.

While trailing through the west, Gene and Pat are shot by prospector, Thad Trigg, who thinks the two are outlaws who are wanting his newly discovered gold mine. Amelia, Thad's wife invites the two in. Thad then recognises his old friend, Gene, and explains that burgalars have been terrorizing the town, and is afraid one of them will come after his gold mine. Gene ad Pat ride into town to speak with the sheriff, though Pat is once again preoccupied with a cute hair salon owner. Little does Pat know, the salon owner, Corinne is behind all of the robberies. When Amelia comes in to have her hair and nails done, Corinne insists on making a house call, when Amelia shows her a gold nugget. Pat hears this, and tell Gene, who has been tipped about Corinne's mysterious pop-ups during robberies. Gene and Pat ride to the Triggs place, to find Thad unconscious, and the map to his mine stolen. After a chase, Gene and Pat capture the outlaws, while Amelia captures Corinne.

Gene and Pat are on the trail of Randy Barker, who is an escaped criminal. It turns out Randy was framed by Al Broderic, who is now the sheriff. Gene hide the boy at his twin sister, Peggy's house. Gene spends the night in jail under the iron rule of Sheriff Broderick. Gene learns that the former sheriff was killed by three gunshots, but Gene knows Randy only uses one shot. Gene takes this evidence to the judge, who request more evidence. Gene hides a microphone at the jail, and Randy worms out a confession from Al, who says he framed Randy so he could get his hands on the Barkers' ranch. Gene and the judge here this, and Al is jailed.

Pat enters Lover Boy, his rooster, at the Carterville Fair. Spencer Baldwin, who sponsors the fair, has been robbed of his jewel collection, and might have to drop his support if he can't find his jewels. An outlaw gang, composed of Doc McCoy, Tom Jenkins, and their boss, Doll, hide the stolen jewels in Lover Boy's cage. When Pat takes the cage away, the outlaws basically try every way in the book to get the rooster. Pat tips Gene when Doc offers $200 for Lover Boy. Lover Boy is kidnapped by the outlaws, and is about to be cut open after they think the fowl ate the jewels. Gene and Pat arrive in the nick of time, and bring the outlaws, and Doll in. Spencer gets his jewels back, and the fair is saved.

Gene and Pat are called in to help Jim Saunders with his stageline troubles. Jim's son, Ray is in love with the daughter of Jason McKee, Linda, and ends up assisting Jason about the stageline information. Linda tells Ray to tell Jason that Gene is taking the payroll. Jason has his henchmen go out to capture Gene, only to find that he and Jim have switched places. Jim is captured, and Ray goes after him, and is followed by the outlaws, who are followed by Gene. The outlaws wound Ray during a gunfight with Gene, who captures the outlaws, and solves Jim's stageline troubles.

Sheriff Higgins of Dry Gulch, calls Gene and PAt in for help, due to the fact that he might lose his badge, having to eal with a gang of outlaws and a gambler. While Gene listens to Higgins, Pat tells his tall tales to two boys outside. After hearing Pat's story, two outlaws kidnap Pat, with Gene on their trail. Gene is captured too, and the two are taken to Snap Larkin, who believes Pat knows where an outlaw buried money he stole in bank robberies. Gene tells him one of his men hit Pat in the head with the butt-end of a pistol, and now Pat fakes amnesia. Snap offers the two to stay with them until Pat ""recovers"". While alone, Gene and Pat continue to plan an escape. Eventually, when the outlaws are unsuspecting, Gene rounds them up and bring them in, destroying the gambler's scheme of taking over Cartersville.

Gene and Pat are riding to Blue Mesa when they save Tom Jackson from a lynching. Tom escapes, and Gene and Pat continue riding to Blue Mesa, where they're greeted by Ed Hardley and his wife, Marie. Gene and Pat are called in to investigate losses from the local bank because of a series of stage robbers. Ed tells them that Tom is involved with the robberies, so Pat goes undercover as a cook for the Jackson's cafe, when he learns that Ed killed their father, who was once Ed's partner, and stole his estate. After overhearing a stage driver talking to Pat about a stage full of money, Tom decides to ride after it, but Gene catches him by surprise, only to find that the real outlaw is ""The Black Rider"", who escapes in the mixup. Gene suspects Ed, and he is taken in, and the Jacksons receive their stolen estate.

Gene and his friends Pat and John Morgan transport a wagonload of freight to San Dimas. On the way, John is killed by attacking outlaws. Gene finds empty 49-90 bullet shells, and goes into investigation. Afterwards, John's son Tim sells the freight line to Paul Nash, the local banker. He was talked into it by Laura Bryan, who works for Tim, but also secretly works for Paul. To stop the sale, Gene puts to line into bankruptcy, and continures to investigate, only to find himself taken prisoner by the outlaws. Gene escapes, and returns to town, where he is accused of robbing a safe. Laura confesses she gave the combination to Paul to keep Tim from getting hurt. Gene is released, and goes after Paul, who is taken in.

Pat entertains Gene and Pat's boss, Lynne Moore's nephew, Johnny, by make believing a stage robbery. This cathces the attention of a gang of robbers, who then dress like Gene and Pat, fooling the town's citizens, and Johnny. Gene and Pat find themselves sandwiched between trying to elude the sheriff's posse, and trying to bring in the outlaws. With Johnny's help, Gene and Pat track down the outlaws, and Johnny learns a lesson in life that there's more to life than what meets the human eye.

While Pat and a neighboring ranch hands race wagons, Gene rides to the rescues and stops them fron being ambused by T Bar C men. Reb Stearns starts a fight with elderly telegraph operator, Pop Wallace, for replacing a fake telegram for one Gene sent in about T Bar C's new owner, Jim Eastman. Jim has his daughter have Gene sign a blank piece of paper to uphold the telegram. Being suspicious, Pop gives her the fake one. The telegram Gene sent in explains that Jim is really a swindling oil promoter. Jim then escapes in a chuck wagon, but Gene and Pat are hot on his trail, and bring him in.

Deadly explosives have been smuggled into U.S.A., from Mexico, via pastries. Mexican authorities seek help from Gene and Pat, who try to run down the smuggling outlaws. While Pat is busy trying to carry a birthday cake for Gene without tripping and falling into it, and a French baker, Mimi, Gene discovers evidence at a death sight of a Mexican official that point to the pastries. Pat carries a box with a cake in it that secretly holds explosives, Gene saves his friends, and brings Mimi and her gang in.

An outlaw gang uses an old ""ghost legend"" to steer people clear of a mountain, where they're hiding stolen armor. Gene and Pat help archeologist Donald Markham, who had been ambushed by ""ghost"" uncover this legend. Markham's little sister Wilma decides to take matters into her own hands (to impress Gene), only to find herself kidnapped, tied up, and gagged. Donald wonders where she is, and Pat explains she wanted help Gene out. The three ride to the rescue, and the stolen armor is recovered.

Hard Luck Finney is getting beat up when Pat and Gene come to visit him. Gene gets Finney an honest job as a watchman at the mine owned by John Grimshaw. Grimshaw later finds Gene and tells him both Finney and a couple of bags of gold dust have disappeared. Gene sees that there was a struggle and realizes that Finney has been kidnapped. Gene follows a trail of pieces of an old map and catches up with the kipnappers. The kidnappers escape and later kidnap Finney again. They want Finney to show where his gold mine is located. But there isn't any mine! Gene and Pat catch up the kidnappers again and rescue Finney.

Lassiter's gang has been on a robbing spree. Gene chases them to Pablo's Cantina and is almost ambushed by one of the gang except Sombrero warns him. In town Lassiter is dressed so nice that Pat thinks he is Senator Murphy. Lassiter convinces the Mayor to give him $45,000 to help build a dam. Gene is suspicious and when the real Senator arrives he is postive that he is, in fact, Lassiter. Lassiter escapes by using Verna as a shield and he returns to Pablo's Cantina. Sombrero helps again by showing Gene a secret entrance. Songs: ""Back in the Saddle, Again"" and ""Dixie Cannonball.""

Banker of Snake River, Ben Tansey, suddenly disappears, leaving the townspeople to believe he embezzeled the bank's funds. When the sheriff goes out in search, he is attacked by two outlaws, one of them is riding Ben's horse. Gene rides to the rescue, and takes over the investigation. After detective work, Gene and Pat are able to round up the real embezzelers, and Ben is saved. from a lynching.

Gypsies Gerelda, and her grandfather, Alonzo are held up by outlaes, who try to kidnap Gerelda, but Gene and Pat ride to the rescue. Judge Thaddeus Fawcett believes the gypsies can identify his nephew as one of the outlaws, but he is the outlaws leader. Gene captures one of the outlaws when they try to rustle some horses. Thaddeus then orders his men to pose as gypsies to rob stages, and plant the stolen goods at the gypsy camp. Gene sets the gypsies free when he learned that Alonzo was sent on a wild goose chase. Gene later stops a runaway wagon, and track the outlaws to Thaddeus's desk.

Pat has ordered a mail order bride but when she arrives, she is a widow with a young son (Jimmy). Meanwhile the the stage keeps getting robbed of gold shipments but big Jim Brady isn't really concerned as his shipments are all insured. The Jimmy finds a strongbox in a cabin but it is only filled with rocks. Brady grabs Jimmy but Gene and Pat arrive in time to save him and discover the plot. Pat doesn't get the girl! Gene discovers dynamiting at a safe robbery. His number one clue is the fuse the outlaw used. Gene is confused when the fuse is times at 4 1/2 minutes to blow open a safe. Pat believes the fuse was that long so the robber would've had time to escape. Gene believes then that the dynamite was a cover up. Gene arrests his suspect, George Evans, who admits to lighting the dynamite, but to cover up the earlier disappearance of the money. Pat uses his new telescope to watch someone's hand at poker, Gene then believes the telescope could be used to find the combination to the safe. Gene sets a trap for the robber who he suspects to be Jim Lear, one of George's co-workers, by replacing the door of the safe and the combination. Gene is surprised to find the real outlaw is the hotel manager, John Turner. He and Jim are taken in.

While riding through the west, Gene discovers Gold Dust Charlie had been murdered, and the culpret had just gotten away. Gene finds gold while burying Gold Dust Charlie, and is immedietaly arrested. Gene sneaks out of jail, and follows Harry Taylor, who was once Charlie's partner. Betty Taylor fires a shot, callinmg attention to the sheriff's posse, and Gene takes the Taylors in old mine, and sets a stick of dynamite. The sheriff arrives right when the killer gets away again. Gene saves the Taylors, and sends the killer to jail.

Pat enters a chariot race at a local fair that's in town. Confident that Pat will win, Gene places a bet, using the budget of an old school that's funding for a new building. There's dirty playing as the champion chariotist sabatoges Pat's chariot. This doesn't go unnoticed by Gene, and insists that Pat trade chariots. Pat wins the race, and the school is on it's way to having a new building.

Pat and his wagon passenger, Diana Jamison are attacked by two men, who plan to abduct Diana, but Gene is able to foil their plans. Steve Kinney tries to scare Diana's father, Dave into selling his ranch to have two ranches linked togethe across the border to smuggle good. Steve tries to ambush Dave, but is unsuccessful, and Gene is able to apprehend one of his outlaw members. The two men, then attack Dave's ranch and kidnap Diana. Gne chases after them, only able to apprehend on of them. Gene and Pat plan a sneak attack, by smoking the outlaws out, while Pat rescues Diana. Steve meanwhile forces Dave to sign an agreement, but Gene arrives to save the day, and brings Steve in.

Miss Lucy, and old maid of Boulder Bluff decides to leave, being fed up with the conflict between Tom Colby, and his stepfather, George. Pat's stage's horse run away, and Gene catches them at a spot where outlaw Ace Judkins is hiding, Pat mistakens Gene for the bandits. Ace pretends to be a U.S. Marshal, and he and Pat bring Gene in, where Gene sees Ace's face on a wanted poster. Gene hears that gold has been stolen, and George Colby has been killed. Gene suspects Tom, and arrests him, but Miss Lucy is confident that he's innocent. Gene follows one of the outlaws to Ace's hideout, while Pat follow's Gene's trail of wanted posters. The outlaws is double-crossed, and killed, when Pat and his posse arrive. The outlaws are brought in, and Tom is off the hook.

The sheriff of Melody Mesa has Gene pose as a music teacher to gain access to a mine he suspects is the hideout ofr a counterfeiting headquarters. Gene makes a recording of his singing to distact Roger Merritt, the owner of the mine, while he and Pat investigate the tunnel. Pat finds the hideout and sneaks some coins, and goes after Gene, who gets into a fight witj foreman Robinson, and his gang. Pat is knocked unconscious, and recovers with amnesia. Gene finds out that Roger isn't involved with the counterfeiting. Pat is found with the coins, and is arrested. Pat then regains his memory, and he and the sheriff go after Gene. It turns out Robinson is the real culpret, and tries to ride off with his dismantled equiment, but Gne, Pat, and the sheriff catch him, and arrest him.

A wagon is held up by three masked outlaws, the guard is killed, and they rob a salesman of his jewelry. Suspicion immedieatly falls on Johnny Peters, the drive, but Gene thinks he's innocent. Pat is the next suspect due to his obssesion of pills, when people believe his pills hid the jewels. Pat overhars a converstation that he might soon die. Gene and Pat then save Johnny from a lynching. Pat single handedly takes down all the outlaws and brings them in, after Gene says that the conversation was a misunderstanding, and then PAt realizes in the fight, he could've been killed.

In the season 5 premiere, and part 1 of a trilogy, Gene and Pat ride over to the Flying W ranch. Gene is to turn the rnach into a home for wayward boys. Gene is fully in charge, but if one little thing goes wrong, the ranch goes to Big Jim, who the leader of the Weston Gang. Miss Abby Pickett is the new teacher for the school, and Gene, Pat, and the Cass County Boys transfer the boys to the new Flying-A-Ranch Home of Gene Autry's Rangers. Gene finds himself having trouble dealing with a tough city kids named Legan, who goes by ""Lefty"". Gene lets Lefty ride Little Champ, only to find one of the ranchhands had put a cactus pad under Little Champ's saddle. Gene sees a brand initials ""SR"" on Lefty's baseball bat, and figures out that its Stan Richter (one of the ranchhands) is behind the whole situation. With Lefty's help, Gene brings Stan and his gang in, and the Flying-A-Ranch is off the a great start,

Gene's new Flying-A-Ranch for wayward boys is off to a great start. Gene decides to give Big Jim Weston, a jailed convict and son of former rancher Mamie Weston, a second chance as a hand on tat the Flying-A. On the way to the ranch, Big Jim bumps into one of the boys, Pedro Gonzales, who immediately recognizes the outlaws as the one who killed his parents. Big Jim of course denies, when all of the sudden, a stage is held up by Stan Richter and the Weston Gang. Stan's plan to to sabotage the Flying A so it will go to Big Jim. Pedro tells Gene about the hold up, and Gene rides after Big Jim, who has been hit over the head by Stan Richter to create suspicion. Meanwhile, things are going smoothly at the Flying A with Gene training Champion and Little Champ for the boys. Gene also teaches a lesson about how to be an American, after Lefty bullies Pedro. Big Jim Weston is now in jail, after causing trouble for Gene's Flying-A-Ranch Home of Gene Autry's Rangers. Big Jim has a letter sent to his only daughter Gerry Wentworth. She becomes a new tenant at Flying A, and Gene promises to start a Rangerette troop. Gene, Pat, and the sheriff are attacked to keep them preoccupied during a prisonbreak. Stan Richter and his lawyer Martin Pickett plan another sabotage on Gene's ranch. This time, they set the barn on fire by a bow and arrow, and place the blame on Pat, when they bury his corncob pipe as evidence. The stage holds Captain Randy Jones, and a entertainer named Della Dix, who is carring a fortune in her jewelry. The other passengers are Cliff Barton (her body guard), and Pat, who is heading to recover his stolen mule, Mike. Along the way, they are ambushed by a band of Apaches, and two masked outlaws, who run off with Diamond Della's jewelry. Gene chases after the outlaws, learning that Cliff hired them, but double-crossed them with fake jewelry, while he got away with the real jewelry. Gene tracks him down, and brings him in, Captain Jones stops the Indian war, Diamond Della, is back on stage, and Pat is reunited with his noble steed.

Gene and Fernando, a Mexican patrol captain, learn that Gregorio, an Apache renegade is starting a revolution below the Mexican border, when guns are being smuggled to Arizona. Fernando is to trap Gregorio, while Gene is to put an American who is involved with the smuggling on trial. Pat is hired to transport a bell to San Angelo, not knowing his wagon is carrying an illegal shipment of guns. Gene finds Gregorio, and begins to chase, but has to stop when the renegade crosses over the Mexican border. Fernando allows Gene to unofficially cross the border to capture Gregorio. Gene then discovers the guns hidden in Pat's wagon, and sets out to trap Gregorio. Gene and Fernando both cross the border, and together are able to capture the gun smuggling Apache.

Chief gambler, Jaycee Cady sends out his henchmen to beat up the parson and Gene. With parson's daughter, Esther, to identify the outlaws, Gene and Pat rude into Scorpion to recover the stolen money. When the money is recovered, Gene and Jaycee are sent to jail. During a fake trial, Jayccee makes a jailbreak. Pat frees Gene, and they find the outlaws hiding in a shack outside of town. When the race comes, Champion falls ill, and Midnight wins. Hap and Corky discover that the race was fixed, and are captured by the outlaws. The outlaws surrender to Gene when their ambush fail, by one of the fellow outlaws shooting Jim, who tries to stop him from shooting Eddie.

After hearing this, Jeff Forbes, Mac's black sheep nephew tries to claim the ranch for himself. Jeff ambushed and killed Tom, but plays innocent to Gene. After Tom recovers from paralyzation, he tries to shoot Jeff. Gene allows Jeff to leave, who runs to his prartner in crime to kill Tom and claim the ranch. Gene follows and stops them in the nick of time.

Antoher prospector is found dead with horseshoe prints on him. Blackie is then sentenced to death. Gene goes to find the real killer, and Chuck lets Blackie escape. Gene discovers that Blackie was used as a decoy, and the horse is off the hook, and Chuck now owns his own horse.

When Sagebrushes stolen watch's alarm goes off, the bar manager Yvette suddenly puts 2 and 2 togehter. Sagebrush and the outlaw ride out to bury some stolen treasures, when the sheriff kills the outlaws. As it turns out, the sheriff is in fact the ringleader. When he isn't suspecting, Gene ambushes him, and with the bumbling help of Sagebrush, he is brought in.
