Mike accompanies Laura on a business trip. When they arrive at the hotel, Laura tells Mike that she has booked their reservation as Mr. and Mrs. Selway.

Laura decides to approach Mike about getting back some of the money she put into their flat. When she visits him, Laura is astonished to meet Elaine, Mike's sexy new girlfriend.

While Laura hides from Mike at Helen's house, Mike becomes concerned that Laura may be in trouble in Brussels. Before Laura can stop him, he flies off to Belgium to check on her.

Laura and Mike are seriously at odds because they disagree about starting a family. After an all-out, soggy confrontation, Laura makes a bold decision.

Mike prepares to interview applicants for a new landscaping assistant to replace Charlie. Helen and Phil are setting up a nursery. Laura decides that she too would like a baby, but the problem is Mike doesn't.

Laura's plans for a small dinner party get interrupted when Charlie, Mike's assistant, takes ill and calls on Mike and Laura for help. They frantically prepare dinner between visits to the hospital.

To combat her terror of the dentist, Laura is given sedatives that leave her light-headed and flirtatious. Her behaviour towards Mike results in a comic misunderstanding that threatens to worsen an already awkward situation after Helen asks them to house-sit when she and Phil go to Dieppe

Laura's insecurity mars the couple's first morning together. After seeing Mike with an attractive lunch date, Laura becomes jealous and seeks the company of a neurotic family friend who sticks to her like glue.

Feeling the need to get settled on her own again, Laura goes to the flat she once shared with Mike to clear out her belongings. Mike goes along when she checks out a new flat, but he feels very strongly that it is not right for Laura.

Mike is put on the spot when Laura's parents come to meet him and to celebrate Helen's good news. True to form, Mike makes an ""unusual"" first impression.

Ambushed once again by Helen and Phil, her matchmaking sister and brother-in-law, Laura escapes from the party after being introduced to Mike. Mike, trying to flee from Laura, chooses the same hiding place.

After a happy night together, Laura and Mike inspect a rundown farmhouse which Mike is thinking of buying. They both fall in love with it. Mike says he wants Laura to live there with him, but Laura misunderstands what he means.

Laura's efforts to dig up new customers for Mike's gardening business are too successful. Instead of thanking her, Mike gets angry and insists she learn more about the business

The day after the party, Helen and Phil get conflicting accounts when they check in with the presumed lovebirds. The effort to get their stories straight gives Laura and Mike an excuse for an excursion.

A new romance buds for Laura, but gets nipped when she discovers the attractive man she met on a business trip to Brussels is already over-committed. Mike's work also leads to a romantic disappointment that is coincidentally related to Laura's.

Mike is ready to jump at another party invitation, but when Laura refuses to go along he invites her out to dinner instead. His attempts to impress her go over the top when Laura loses a contact lens on the restaurant carpet.
