The main suspect is Alex Throne, the guitarist and lead singer of Head-On Collision, in whose room the body was found. But the suspect soon becomes Dr. Peter Vanguard, the man in charge of the clinic, when Holly discovers his rather unethical medical practices.

Holly and Mike investigate the death of Shauna Celine, a public relations executive for White Thunder Designs who appeared to have been prostituting herself on this side. When the police search the deceased's house they find a date book that mentions the name of lawyer Jessica Hammond--a teacher whom Holly highly respected. After questioning Ms. Hammond about her meeting with Shauna, Michael believes she's not being straightforward with them. Meanwhile, Captain Lipschitz worries about what to get Frannie for their 25th wedding anniversary; Holly begins to doubt her choice to go to law school.

Connie Bayliss, an actress-turned-play producer, asks her old friend Captain Lipschitz to assign Holly to investigate the murder of her leading actress--the only catch is that Holly must go undercover as the actress taking the deceased's place. The main suspect is Jerry Manning, the play's director, whose motive was that the Bayliss' were planning on dropping him when the play hit the big screen. Meanwhile, Connie, who's researching her next role as a cop, tags along as Michael investigates--but he is soon annoyed by her attempts to be helpful.

Holly and Mike investigate the death of Kelly Shepherd--the wife of record producer Mack Shepherd. All evidence points to Bobbie Bodine, an aspiring young singer whose daddy Lucien "Bayou" Boudreau has been using the record company to launder his mob money. Meanwhile, Kate Masters, Michael's ex-fiancee, arrives in Palm Beach to tell Mike that she has left his brother to come back to him.

When the strangled body of Cyndi Parker washes ashore, Mike and Holly are assigned to the case. Their chief suspect is Ronnie Martin, a rising football quarterback who was at the Half Moon Club with the deceased the night she was murdered. When Mike and Holly question Terri Roman, the manager of the Arizona Apaches, about Cyndi's death, she denies any knowledge of Cyndi's try-out for their cheerleading squad. Meanwhile, retauranteur Peter Ricci, and son of mobster Dominic Ricci, courts Holly after a "chance" meeting in a jewelry store.

The time has come for Sargeant Chris Lorenzo's funeral service. Though offered a very big promotion weeks before by Lipschitz, Rita cannot bear to stay in the same job without Chris. The episode (and era) ends with Rita bidding a tearful farewell to Lipschitz at Chris' gravesite. She walks away and the following week is the official beginning of a new era with new detectives.

After a pimp is murdered, two of his employees become suspects. Chris becomes involved with one of the suspects, Maddie, a hooker who is raising her teenage brother. Rita begins to doubt Chris's objectivity as he becomes closer to Maddie.

A model is murdered. At the request of Paul Clifton, the model's ex-husband and photographer, Rita meets with him at his home. He puts her in a compromising position when he makes her lunch and takes a picture of her. When this picture is delivered to the police department, Chris and Captain Lipschitz begin to question Rita's ability to be objective.

A novelist's assistant is murdered. Chris and Rita encounter the deceitful world of publishing when the novelist, Jackie McMillan, and her drunken husband become prime suspects.

When Rita's friend Gina washes ashore in Margaritaville she decides to join the two local officers assigned to the case--Jack Duvall and Savannah Smith. While Savannah doesn't like the idea of Rita tagging along, Jack is smitten by Rita. After some investigating, they discover that Gina must have been out on a boat the night she was murdered. The two main suspects are Davis Lee--a fishing guide with a sketchy past, and Steve Bolton--a polo player, and husband of the Senator--whose boat they suspect was used. Savannah, who's had a few relationships with Davis in the past, believes his innocence but is afraid Bolton will be able to pin the murder on him. Meanwhile, Jillian wants Chris to move to Boston with her after she is offered Chief of Surgery at Mercy Hospital.

A woman is found dead in a hotel room. As Chris and Rita investigate, they soon discover that the woman was named Susan Kemper, and that she was involved in some sort of deal to get her arrested husband a sentence of Community Service rather than jail time. When another felon, Mr. Fuller, is surprisingly given a sentence of Community Service by the same judge who sentenced Mr. Kemper, Chris and Rita begin to suspect that the judge--"Flip-A-Coin" Moyne--might be offering the wives of his felons a way to "earn" their husbands' freedom--by having sex with him. Donovan wants more proof before he will stick his neck out to attack the judge, so Rita talks to Mrs. Fuller to see if their suspicions are correct. Meanwhile, Atticus Dunn has a string of parking problems while peddling his fresh shrimp, including a run-in with Officer Grodenchick.

Chris is assigned an ambitious detective trainee, Lisa Hann, to help him investigate the murder of Itsy Bitsy Magazine model Shelly Hunter. As they investigate, Chris often finds himself warning Lisa about her negative use of force. Finally, when Lisa physically attacks one of the models--who won't give her the information she wants--Chris tells Lisa he is going to write her up. The next morning, the captain tells Chris that Lisa is suing him and the department for sexual discrimination and harassment. Soon, Chris finds that Donovan has turned on him; he tells Chris to admit to the harassment, and strike a deal. Chris refuses to bargain, and decides to investigate Lisa. Along with Rita's help they may just uncover the truth about Lisa. Meanwhile, Rita is loaned out to vice to work undercover as a prostitute in a sting operation.

Tina and Alexa, two college roommates, go to the police station after continuously receiving harassing phone calls. Chris tells them that he is from Homicide and cannot help them. The next day, Tina shows up dead in her car, and Alexa says it is all Chris' fault. Later that night, while Alexa and her boyfriend Jeff are in bed together, Jeff whispers to Alexa, "I know what scares you"--the same thing the killer used to say to Tina. Alexa locks herself in the bathroom, and once Jeff leaves, she goes to the police station and tells them what happened. So Chris and the Captain decide to investigate Jeff Chadwick's past. Meanwhile Rita is busy with the Costanzo Case; and Chris tries to smooth things out between his friends Rick and Liz Faraday--who are arguing over the same salary issues Chris and Jillian argued about.

A New York Private Investigator, Jerry Banning, is found shot to death in his hotel room. The only evidence the two Sams have to work with is the six telephone calls Banning made while in Palm Beach--five of which were to the Hamilton residence. So Chris and Rita decide to call Meridian Security and ask Banning's boss, "Champagne" Tony Morella, what Banning was doing in Palm Beach. Tony had not known where Banning had disappeared to, so he comes to Palm Beach--where he discovers that his old friend Harry Lipschitz is now working for the Palm Beach Police Department. Meanwhile Morella uses his friendship with Lipschitz to get info on the case, and then uses this knowledge for his own personal gain. Also: Keisha brings her daughter's exotic flu to the office; and Chris' long-planned Caribbean Fantasy Vacation with Jillian is ruined when he catches it.

Chris and Rita pose as an engaged couple and attend a sex therapy clinic where a reporter was mysteriously killed.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a model, who was killed in her condo. The main suspect is Gator Ramsey, the deceased's husband, who was planning a divorce. Soon, however, it looks as though an old rape case may have had something to do with the death. Just when Chris and Rita think they may have a lead, an ex-cop, who may have been able to shed some light on the case, winds up dead in his office.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of Roland Ballentine. After talking to the deceased's doctor, they discover that the man was murdered; Roland had taken amal nitrate--something he would not have done on his own since he knew he had heart problems. Lance and Lorenzo talk to Roland's son Junior, a constant drunk, and his niece Claire. They find that Junior and Roland were sleeping with the same woman, Eve Kinsley--a stripper who worked for Donnie Dog's "Dream Girls". Chris and Rita also discover that Junior has a gambling problem, and that he needed the inheritance he got to pay off his debts--so all the evidence points to Junior. Meanwhile, Chris and Jillian discover some problems with their relationship when Chris over-reacts to Jillian's colleague's comments about their doctor-patient relationship; and the captain reveals his hobby of collecting baseball cards.

While working at Sunrise House--a shelter for battered women--Holly receives a distress call from Sharon Grayson who says her husband is going to kill her. When Mike and Holly arrive at the scene, they find the husband dead--with two bullets in his body--and Sharon is nowhere to be seen. While Holly believes that Sharon was truly in danger, no one seems to agree, including Allie Grayson, the deceased's daughter, Michael and Donovan. Holly changes her mind, however, when some evidence turns up that shows that Sharon may not really be who she says she is.

When a congressman is found dead and naked by the sea, Chris and Rita are assigned to the case. Their first actions are to question the dead man's family, and to check the guest list from the man's party held the night of his murder. All the evidence seems to point to the dead man's son's girlfriend. Meanwhile, Chris helps Rita overcome her insomnia.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a young woman. Soon, they discover that her murder was part of a serial killing by a man who finds his victims in the singles ads. So Rita places an ad in order to try and catch the killer. Meanwhile, Chris reunites with an old lady friend, who has turned to stripping for her income.

After answering a 10-18, burglary in progress, Chris returns fire on, and kills, one of the delinquents trying to drive away. The other felon disappears, as well as gun belonging to the criminal whom Chris shot at. Now all the evidence of the deceased boy being armed is gone and, to make matters worse, a video tape also makes it look like Chris fired alone. Meanwhile, the dead boy's mother seeks revenge against Lorenzo.

A young woman has an erotic passion for male police officers. After an unsuccessful inciden she drives her car and is stopped by a police vehicle. A uniformed man steps close to her car door and lays his leather-gloved hands around her neck and squeezes.

Lorenzo and Lance investigate the murder of a loathed publisher. Chris talks to the deceased's wife, who was about to tell her husband that she wanted a divorce because of his infidelity. The two sergeants also talk to the deceased's business partner who, after his partner's death, was got complete control over the company. The final suspect is the dead man's mistress Avery Benton. Meanwhile, Rita ""runs into"" a concert promoter named Tyler.

A mysterious woman calls the police to report a murder that is going to happen at Ocean Park, near the carousel. When Lorenzo and Lance get there, they are fired upon, even after identifying themselves. They find out that the man who shot at them was their patrol commander John Stonewell. Now Chris and Rita must face a shooting review board because of their commander's lies.

A young boxer looks esgerly forward towards his first big match, when his promotor turns against him abd fires his coach. The promotor's bookmaker-friends wants him to loose.... or else

When a man is found dead on the side of the road, the death appears to have been caused by a heart attack, but the two cops don't think all is as it seems. Chris and Rita suspect that a couple is luring ""amateurs"" to their dungeon for ""sometimes lethal sex."" So Lance and Lorenzo go undercover as a couple of swingers looking to be chosen by the couple, to go to the dungeon. Meanwhile, an old enemy reminds Rita of her father and her youth.

A man is killed by a bale hook while trying to deliver a million-dollar ransom for his kidnapped daughter. When Chris and Rita investigate, they slowwly discover that there really was no kidnapping. Their main problem is that every time they find a new suspect, he winds up dead. Meanwhile, Chris tries to find time to make a pasta dinner for his new girlfriend Ursula.

A woman is found shot-to-death in her shower. The person who found the body was the victim's lover--a ""Shock Radio"" host. Chris' main suspect is the host, but his alibi is that he was doing his live show at the time of the murder. While on the air, an obsessed fan calls in to admit to killing the host's lover. Meanwhile, Chris goes to talk to Melissa, who works at the same radio station.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a young nanny. The suspect is a wife who saw her husband having an affair with the deceased, but she says that she was sleeping during time of the murder. Meanwhile, Chris debates moving in with his girlfriend, Annie.

After finding a realtor's business card in a dead man's wallet, Chris and Rita confront the woman. In exchange for immunity, she helps the two detectives set up a sting operation against the owner of an illegal casino, who lets his clients build up huge debts, and then kills them because they cannot pay. Chris goes undercover as a big-spender, ready to play, while Rita plays the part of a blackjack dealer. Meanwhile, Chris and Annie try to work out their problems.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a call girl. The only suspect is her last client--a judge up for reelection. Now Chris and Rita have to find the only witness to the murder: another call girl.

A baseball-team owner is killed with a baseball bat, while his wife calls 911. The main suspect is a baseball player named DJ Martin. While Chris waits for the suspect, Rita goes to talk to the deceased's estranged son Buddy.

A man who, at first, thinks that he'd like to see his wife in bed with another man becomes jealous of the other man, and kills him. But, while he is dumping off the body, he is seen by a runaway. Meanwhile, Chris becomes involved with a clothing designer.

A man winds up dead on the beach, so Chris goes to search the deceased's office. While there, Lorenzo finds a date book with the entry ""S.O.B."" and a roll of film. Chris and Rita go to the house belonging to some people in one of the undeveloped pictures. While there, they see the dead man's watch. The two cops decide to investigate a yacht called the "S.O.B.", where they gain more clues as to the murderer, the way he did it, and why.

Hutch goes undercover as a Jamaican drug dealer, in order to stop a gun-runner and drug kingpin. Meanwhile, Rita tries to work out her relationship with an old flame, who wants to rekindle their old romance.

The young daughter of a wealthy family has a split personality, and when the tyrant mother is found dead, she seems to be the obvious target of the police investigation.

A woman is found dead in her pool by her next door neighbor. The evidence points to a mystery woman who could also have been the victim's lover. Meanwhile, Chris gets reunited with an old girlfriend, but what will he do when he finds out that she is the ""mystery woman""?

Upon talking to Lorraina's personal assistant, Rita discovers that the man in the book is Michael Ferraro--one of her old foster brothers. When Rita talks to Michael, he gives her a bogus alibi; and as he leaves, Rita notices that he owns a red corvette. While Donovan and everyone else just want to convict Michael, Rita believes that he is really innocent, and wants to help him. Meanwhile, Chris must nurse his aching back back to health after he his fall from a ladder while helping Rita paint her house.

Eric calls Chris in the middle of the night, desperately needing his help. When Chris arrives, he sees Eric get shot to death, and chases after the killers as they drive away--but when he returns to the spot where Eric was shot, the body is gone. The next morning, Special Agent Pete Santos of the BATF shows up in the captain's office, and tells Chris and Rita that Eric was selling arms to a cartel run by Lena Correll; he also says that Eric was working with Johnny Almendarez--the man Chris witnessed shooting Eric. While Rita is too emotional to think straight enough to be effective, she still wants to actively pursue Eric's killer, and so she tags along with Chris. Meanwhile, Rita thinks she may be pregnant with Eric's baby.

Chris and Rita investigate the death of a surgeon who was murdered with a scalpel. The evidence points to another doctor who was beat out by the deceased for a promotion. Meanwhile, Chris gets reunited with his old friends Howie and Tina. Lorenzo could be falling in love with Tina, but the only problem is that she is married to his friend Howie.

A rapist returns to haunt Chris for sending him to jail.

A young girl is found dead by a jogging schoolmate, but Chris and Rita think it is a ""silver platter homicide." Soon, the evidence shows that the girl was gang-raped. In order to stop the killers, Rita goes undercover as a college student.
