Rajat leaves his village for Lucknow. His father expects him to bring honor to their village. His mother makes him swear three oaths to help him pass the civil service exam.

Rajat is attracted to Prerna, the most popular girl in college. At a party, he meets her friend Ritesh and realizes Prerna already has a love interest.

Rajat decides to suppress his loveria for prerna, and focus on studies, remembering prashant's teaching that life is like chess, black and white, failure or success. But the more he tries to distance her, more she tries to befriend him, and Rajat ends up verbally sparring with Ritesh as a consequence. But then a chance meeting with a mystery woman reignites ishqfluenza in his heart.

When Rajat finds himself obsessing over the mystery woman, he likens himself to a 'Mausam ka mendhak' who is 'tartara-oaing' for a princess who will kiss him and make him a prince. He is torn between his feelings for Prerna and this fascinating mystery woman. This same mystery woman is also the one to give him the vital eye opening gyan that, in order to win a girls heart.

Confident Rajat, reapproaches Prerna and impulsively touches her face. She seems offended , he is crestfallen and then to top it all, he discovers that the mystery woman -" Chaya " is no one but Prashant Bhaiya's long standing girlfriend. He is crushed with the double whammy till he comes to know that Prerna was opposite of offended.

Rajat is stressing over an assignment when he gets entangled in a web of distraction by Yuvan, who wants to slap back the girl who slapped him, to avenge his insult. Rajat disapproves of his action but gets dragged along by Shashank. At the last moment Yuvan bails, and they are caught by police.

Rajat is invited to Prerna's birthday and his friends insist he dress up in a 3 piece suit, buy a gift for Prerna as well as her dad. They also push him to tell her he likes her during party, and ask for a kiss as return gift. Rajat realizes his friends pranked him when he becomes laughing stock of party.

Rajat comes back from Prerna's party, and finds his father waiting for him. DSC dresses him down, doubting if he will ever be able to repay doodh ka karz. Rajat is shaken by the experience and pulls back from falling in love, but his friends get him back on track, and push him to kiss Prerna to seal their love.

Months have passed and Rajat is still only friends with prerna. As valentine's day nears, his friends push him to finally get the first kiss and put his love into second gear. Rajat plans to propose to Prerna but she goes to mussoorie as her nani is sick. Rajat gets invited to Chaya's party, where he witnesses chaya and prashant fight over him not clearing UPSC.

Rajat skips classes, reads sad love stories, and throws library books after feeling hurt by Prerna's lie and guilty about almost kissing Chaya. Concerned friends extract a promise from suicidal Rajat to not end his life.
