The Simon family are enjoying a day at the ballpark when a 'kid' takes off with AJ's wallet. AJ pursues the kid and catches her, but Allison swears it was just an initiation into a club, so he lets her go. She turns up again at the office to return some things that had 'fallen out' of AJ's wallet. She says she's there to ask for help, but the minute the brothers' backs are turned, she takes off with Rick's $1,000 camera. It turns out that she is working as a prostitute to survive. Her pimp has decided one of her co-workers who is also a friend needs to die. Allison is doing her best to keep her friend alive and out of the pimp's reach. She's pawned Rick's camera for $50 worth of groceries. When the 'customers' get rough with her, Allison flees to AJ's for a safe haven for a night. She's touched by his kindness after she'd stolen Rick's camera, but not touched enough to keep from 'borrowing' AJ's gun. AJ and Rick catch up to her in time to find her friend is dying. Complications from their current case put Rick and AJ before the state licensing board to answer charges from an incident in Florida several years earlier, when AJ was engaged to Janet and working for Myron at Peerless Detectives. The incident is revealed in flashbacks taken from 1980 made for TV-""Pirate's Key"", which was the basis of the series.

Rick and AJ are asked by Tom Huntley, a State Senatorial candidate, to find out whether his wife Colleen is having an affair. Despite their rule against working on cases involving marital difficulties, they agree. Naturally, it's all a setup. The Simons are put in place as witnesses to the apparent murder of Mrs. Huntley. They report the murder and turn over the pictures they've taken to the police. After her body turns up, they realize that what they saw was a scripted scene played out between two hired actors.

After returning home from a date and spurning his advances, Cecilia's power is knocked out and she is beaten and raped by a man she can't see. AJ, who'd been on the phone with her when she was was attacked, rushed to her aid, but got there too late. Rick joined AJ and Abby in the waiting room, horrified to discover his mother has been so brutally attack. He vows vengeance while AJ withdraws into himself, unable to speak about it. They go in to visit Cecilia and find a deeply hurt and defensive woman. The brothers are both enflamed by her pain, and both start to look for the monster who did this. She's responsible for the pageant going off smoothly, so she wants the Simons to go undercover and find out who is being blackmailed by whom. With a sparkle in his eye, Rick decides that AJ will enter as a contestant while he will show up as a judge. AJ is less than happy about it, especially the swimsuit competition, but grudgingly agrees to do it. Things get more serious when the pageant host stumbles upon the blackmailer being beaten by two toughs. The blackmailer, realizing the host must have heard that he owed money to a loan shark, kills him. A pageant contestant finds the body and is immediately suspected of being the murderer. It turns out that she was the one being blackmailed because she was kicked out of her family for being an unmarried mother.
