Will Ferrell is one of the most successful comedy actors of our time - but back in 2003, it was kind of a surprise to see him leading a Christmas movie as a giant non-elf. Elf ended up becoming a holiday classic, but it still raises some questions. Like what happened to that poor nun? Why didn’t the news reporter follow up on anything? Is Buddy the elf actually kind of creepy? So check out the pitch meeting that led to Elf to find out how it all came together!

The Wachowski’s made history with their groundbreaking movie The Matrix back in 1999. But it seems like over the past 25 years they’ve never been able to recapture that magic, try as they may have. Jupiter Ascending rdefinitely raises some questions. Like why is Channing Tatum half a dog? Is Jupiter even interested in anything that’s happening? Why does this movie do the exact same scene twice, back-to-back and beat-for-beat? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Jupiter Ascending!

With movies based on YA novels like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Twilight and Harry Potter doing great at the box office for years, you can’t really blame Lionsgate for trying to recapture that magic with Divergent. Did they success? Hey, no. Divergent definitely raises some questions. Like what’s with the big weird age gap between Tris and Four? What happens is Four gets scared of something new? What’s with the whole testing ceremony? Why eliminate people if you’re just trying to build a mind-controlled army? How exactly does that mind control stuff work anyway?

It’s been 30 years since the last time we saw Mario on the big screen, and that… did not go so well. Finally, the multiple decades have seemingly allowed the Nintendo Corporation to cool off and give Mario and Luigi another shot at cashing in in Hollywood. The Super Mario Bros. Movie definitely raises some questions. Like why was there a warp pipe under the streets of Brooklyn? Why did Princess Peach bring up her mysterious past and then not explain any further? What are these power-up boxes and how did they get there? Why didn’t Toad have to do that obstacle course, and why did Mario have to spend so much time doing it only to fail? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Super Mario Bros. Movie!

About a decade after the acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hollywood decided it was time for another trilogy set in Middle Earth. But this time, they only had one book to base it on. Well, with a lot of padding, they managed to make it work. Kind of. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies raises a lot of questions. Like why did they put the end of the Desolation of Smaug at the beginning of this movie? What’s up with Thorin suddenly being sick and a jerk? Why do the elves hold off on their attack when it’s literally thousands of them versus a dozen dwarves? Where did those worms come from and where did they go? Why are we spending so much time with Alfrid? What was the point of that whole Gandalf storyline? How is Legolas moving like that?

After Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom, Indy came back for The Last Crusade, the third and final movie in the series. They never made another one. It just wouldn’t make sense to do that. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade definitely raises some questions, like how crazy is it that Indy got all his iconic items in like a 15 minute period on the same day? Why didn’t Henry warn Indy about his nazi girlfriend? What’s up with all the bad decisions made during chase scenes? Since the first season of The Mandalorian in 2019 was well-received by critics and audiences alike, Disney has been going all-in on their streaming series set in the Star Wars universe. With reception getting colder and colder with each passing show, there was some hope that the third season of their hit show would turn the tides a little. It… does not seem to have done that. The Mandalorian Season 3 definitely raises some questions. Like why do these Star Wars shows keep making their main characters into side characters? Why do bad guys keep “somehow returning”? Are we ever going to see Mando’s face again, or is Pedro Pascal just over all of this? Why does the plot meander for so long and then suddenly pick up steam in the last two episodes? Is this show over now? To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Mandalorian Season 3!

The result is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever– a lovely tribute to Boseman, but not without some Marvel-ness to poke fun at! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever does raise some questions. Five Nights At Freddy’s is an incredibly popular video game with a deep lore that people seem to be obsessed with. But does a jump-scary video game translate well to a two-hour-long feature film with minimal jumpscares and a whole lot of sleeping? Five Nights At Freddy’s definitely raises some questions. Like why are we spending so much time in a field of dreams? How is there only like one jumpscare in this thing? How does William Afton actually control these things, and how does knowing he’s evil change that for them? Does that cop not have any cop stuff to do?

Suicide Squad wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most people can agree that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was a standout. So it’s only natural that Hollywood wanted to feature her in another movie! Rather than a straight up solo movie, Warner Bros has delivered Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is… pretty much a Harley Quinn movie. The film raises a lot of questions. Like why don’t any of Harley’s enemies use their guns? Where is the Joker and all the other Gotham villains? Where’s Batman for that matter? How is this Roman Sionus guy running the show? Is this the first comic book movie in which the problem is solved via laxatives? Why is there a hyena?! What is going on?!

His latest movie takes the over-the-topness to a whole new level with Moonfall, the movie where the moon falls. Moonfall definitely raises a few questions. Like why is there so much IBS talk? Why doesn’t anyone seem overly panicked about the massive disasters happening right in frontg of them? Why did they immediately send away all the space experts before exploring their options. Did they helicopter fly INTO that wave? NASA gave up on saving the planet because of budgets? How fast does that Lexus sport mode go?! Disney’s original Lion King movie from 1994 is one of the most beloved animated kids movies of all time. It made so much money that Disney is making it again! This time in “live-action” which essentially means very good CGI. Although the original is a classic and characters like Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Zazu, Scar and more are iconic now -- the movie isn’t without its questionable moments. Like what’s up with Scar controlling the weather? Why is the brother-sister romance so… romanticized? Why are lions even kings? Once in a while, the internet goes absolutely nuts for something seemingly random. Recently, the concept of a Barbenheimer double feature emerge, and what seemed like just an internet meme translated into actual, real-world, box office dollars. Take that, Morbius! Barbenheimer definitely raises some questions. Like how did this insane pairing of films come to be? What do these movies have in common? Why is every single word in Oppenheimer underscored with epic music? Why did Barbie keep driving its message home long after it was clear what it was trying to say? Disney continues to pump out content onto Disney Plus after massive investments into making Star Wars and Marvel streaming series a thing. They are now… a thing. Ahsoka starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano has now been released, and it exists! Ahsoka definitely raises some questions. Like are lightsabers even dangerous anymore? Jurassic Park from director Steven Spielberg is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time, so it’s only natural that Universal wanted to make a sequel. Making the beloved side character Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum in the main character seemed like a no-brainer. But The Lost World: Jurassic Park definitely raises some questions, other than the strangely structured title. Like why have we never heard of this secondary island before? What kind of a person secretly goes to a dinosaur island knowing the her boyfriend has lived through very significant dinosaur-related trauma? Why is there a little girl in this movie? What’s up with all the characters making insane decisions leading to death-by-dinosaur? Why are we in San Diego?
