Mr. Zelinka is a beloved teacher who is forced to retire because he has reached the retirement age of 70. The school board president feels that he's teaching responsibilities are too much for him. The students gathered together to form a petition to stop their teacher from retiring but face a big battle when they try to present their petition before the president of the school board who has no intention of changing his mind or listening to what the students have to say.

They bring their son to a department store and there the new store Santa is upset at the store for promoting toy guns, and when the boy tells Santa what he wants, he tells him that he can't be sure if he can give that. Later the store throws him out cause of his bellowing. He later goes back and is arrested, Jonathan offers to defend him, and the boys father sees this as an opportunity to get back at his wife who is the store's counsel. A new play about a man who dies and speaks to God opens. Jonathan is now a priest while Mark is now the dresser for, Fred Fusco, the actor who plays the lead. Fusco's a little morose. But after the plays first performance, he changes; he claims that God was in the audience. People think that he is trying to generate some publicity for the fledgling play, including Jonathan. But nevertheless it seems to work, the play is a smash and Fusco is changing especially after meeting a boy who has cancer. After the boy dies Fusco decides to bequeath all of his property and assets to an endownment in the boy's name. which makes his sister and nephew unhappy, cause they rely on him for their necessities. When he also announces that he will die soon, his sister tries to have him committed. And Jonathan who after telling Fusco that he thinks that he is a fraud and that he is an angel, and Fusco then apologizes to him after God tells him that Jonathan told him was true, decides to speak to God and as

Jonathan and Mark go to work at a halfway house where people who have mental problems that have been institutionalized but unfortunately due to need of space, the ones who are deemed no longer a danger to society, but not really treated are released. So the halfway house is a place where they can treated before going back to their former lives. Now the residents of the neighborhood where they are situated don't want them there and are vocal about it. But when the son of one of them, hits it off with one of them, he thinks that they are a little hasty. And another woman meets one of them at the grocery and hit it off with her too, and is shocked to see that she is one of them, and Jonathan tells her why she was committed. Some of the children are playing with a catapult and set fire to what they are launching, eventually they set fire to a truck and one of them, who was jogging comes across it and tries to help but when the authorities arrive, they suuspect that he was responsible.
