Amy initiates a deadly game of cat and mouse with the accused doctor. Despite Jonesy's warnings, she accepts a lunch invitation only to discover the he has a son with Downs Syndrome and doesn't appear to be quite the monster she had imagined. Amy traces the boy's mother and uncovers the doctor's first victim, but just as she is about to put the doctor away, he again turns the table on her.

The gruelling investigation of the attacks on the Mt. Thomas police continues, as Tom heads to Melbourne to investigate the man who sold the parts for the bomb. He links it to chemical dealer 'Doc' Parkinson, and is determined to prove that he provided the Baxters with supplies for both the bomb and the speed. Although Nick seems to be against this idea, he does join PJ and Amy - who everyone at the station is very impressed with - on another search of the Baxter property, during which time he plants listening devices in their home - which ultimately lead them to discover the truth. On a doorknock, Jonesy and Susie rescue an attractive woman named Donna from a rubbish skip she has been locked in, and Jonesy falls for her. That night at the pub, her former de facto lover hits him, and then claims that Donna took all his possessions, and is a con artist. Ben has been fawning over Susie a little too much, buying her expensive gifts, and she ultimately gives them back and leaves him unsure

Troy Baxter has been crushed underneath a car at his property. Barry blames Tom and, while most of the cops brush this off as grief, Nick thinks it may be true. As Jonesy, Ben and Susie move things in to the new station, PJ and Nick focus on Cal Millic, who Tom thinks is just a distraction. Probationary Constable Kelly O'Rourke arrives. She's fresh from the Academy, ambitious and enthusiastic, and determined to prove her worth. Her father, who was an old friend of Tom's, died in the course of his duty as a policeman. However, her attempts to convey her sympathy to Tom end in him disciplining her. She is quickly aware that Tom Croydon is a changed man. Grace's autopsy report comes back: she was raped before, presumably, struggling to escape and falling into the river, where she drowned. Tom wants it kept out of the press, but it has already appeared on the radio. Jonesy and Susie pull over a speeder and discover it is Probationary Constable Joss Peroni. He's an enthusiastic cowboy who l

PJ is stepping out in style - back in uniform as the Acting Sergeant. But this isn't the only change at Mt. Thomas police station. A new member has arrived; acting CI Deborah Hill and none of the Heelers seems able to make a good impression on her. Deborah is currently suing another member, Sgt. Bill Parker, for sexual harassment and tensions increase when she catches the Heelers talking about it behind her back. Deborah is taking over a case from PJ; a series a warehouse burglaries. PJ believes that a local, Johnny Rossitano, is behind them. He explains to Deborah that he has spoken to Rossitano's girlfriend, April, who has told him that Johnny has teamed up with two out-of-towners, Sean and Michael Murphy. The trio are planning to hit a warehouse tonight. Deborah doesn't think much of PJ's techniques or his information. PJ and Deborah continue to clash as they prepare to stake out the warehouse that night. Tom realises that something has to be done and so tells PJ to back off.

When a review team arrives in Mt. Thomas to decide if the station should be down-graded, the Heelers are thrown into a panic. It doesn't help matters that Nick is the subject of a ""Day in the Life Of"" by Tony Timms, and is doing his best to show that the life of a cop is a dull one. But then a woman goes missing and Tony starts to think that Nick is having an affair with her. Maybe Tony will get a nice, juicy article out of all of this... with Nick as the subject!

It is the annual police Christmas party and all goes well until Gina is raped and after Adam slept with her his brother is the main suspect. The only witness is Clancy, a mentally disabled man.

Melbourne Cup day hardly brings Mt. Thomas to a standstill when a series of burglaries rock the town.

When the police investigate the murder of a Vietnam veteran found stabbed to death in his hospital bed, they focus their investigations on a schizophrenic obsessed with knives.

An after-hours robbery of the Imperial Hotel is interrupted by the publican, Chris Riley. There is a struggle in the darkened bar, and Chris is left with a badly cut hand and a young female robber in a coma from a blow to the head.

A well respected local politician is found dead and the autopsy reveals that he was moved after death and had ecstasy in his system.

When rodeo clown Shane Denovan rides into town with his sick horse Lulubelle, Jo plays the good samaritan and finds him a job and accommodation. Sadly, the local vet believes Lulubelle should be put down so Jack lets Shane ride his horse, Matilda, to chase the thieves of horse semen into the bush. It's raining cats and dogs in Mount Thomas and Nick and Adam are overdue back from patrol. When they arrive they are drenched through and their uniforms are in tatters. The other Heelers have no idea of the extent of their trauma until Tom asks them to explain themselves and Adam bursts into tears. While Dash attempts to draw the story out of Adam, Nick disappears to change his uniform. However, shock has taken over and he withdraws into himself, making it difficult to find out the true story. Adam explains that it all began when they attempted to rescue a young girl from a flooded stormwater drain. While Nick held onto her and attempted to stop her from being dragged away, he sent Adam for help. However Adam soon found himself in the middle of a crisis of his own involving the girl's sister and wasn't able to get back in time. Piecing the story together, the Heelers discover that exhaustion wore Nick down and he eventually let go of the girl. Now back in the station, guilt and anger l

""Search warrants are for searching, we're tidying up"" Tom Croydon is on leave and is assisting in the running of the local racing event at Mount Thomas. All is going well until he has a catering mix up - it appears that he has employed two caterers and both women are not to pleased when they find out that each other has been hired. Nick and Maggie are roster on to patrol the highway and are on the out look for speeding motorists. The skull turns up aka Sergeant Harrison is the Boss replacement. He is not impressed with Maggie and Nick's results on booking drivers and sets about to rectify this situation immediately much to the displeasure of Maggie and Nick. The Skull takes Maggie out on a tour of inspection of Mount Thomas. While out with the Skull, PJ and Wayne witness the Skull putting Maggie through the correct procedure of ticketing much to the amusement of Wayne and PJ. PJ is on a mission - to find Apples (Barry Raymond Maxwell), it appears they have a bit of history together. It

Amy and Even are attempting an undercover operating when their cover is blown and Matt is almost shot. Tom is still battling with, and coming to terms with, his cancer and knows that he should be taking his time and renewing ties with his estranged family. He is distracted when disgraced former police-officer Adam Cooper arrives in Mount Thomas, as a photocopier technician. Cooper, who was dismissed by Tom for corruption, attempts to frame Tom and accuses him of illegally selling stolen firearms following the bombing of the former Mount Thomas police station; these are accusations that Inspector Falcon-Price is gleeful to hear and he readily accepts them and grants Cooper anything he desires. Tom also helps fellow cancer suffer, Gina, in her final days and Heelers are left to pick up the pieces. Alex and Amy must prepare for Tom's approaching case, which he seems to have no care for at all, and they are stretched to breaking point. After the accusations against Tom, the Inspector announces that the Mount Thomas station is to close and the Heelers start to find new jobs, facing the fact that they must leave Mount Thomas. Finally, Cooper's scheme is foiled, it is announced that the station is to remain open and the Inspector leaves, very disappointed.

Joss's gambling debts peak; in an attempt to pay them off, he takes a second job as a cab driver. He is presented with a once only opportunity for easy money when a high roller offers him a job as a getaway driver. Amy and Jonesy investigate the murder of a client of Joss's and link it to an armed robbery and Joss's high roller client. Following this, Joss is taken hostage and it becomes a race against time to save him. Kelly's relationship is again tested when she and her boyfriend are again on opposing sides of a case.

The Heelers investigate the suspicious downing of a crop dusting plane, suspecting sabotage; they just do not count of the amount of suspects. Everyone is concerned that Joss has lost his nerve when he fails to back Kelly up during two incidents. Joss's gambling problems are increasing and his gambling problems start to affect his work. When he is left homeless, Kelly offers him accommodation. Again, Kelly is having problems with her new lawyer boyfriend and the ethical problems that their relationship is presenting. Alex fears for his son when he provides evidence about a robbery. Alex also fears Rory has a crush on Susie, or even worse, that Susie is the one with a crush.

Joss's mother arrives in Mount Thomas and reveals she is worried about Joss's money habits. Joss reveals he has a gambling problem. While investigating a series of arsons, Kelly gets involved with a lawyer but questions the relationship when it comes to their conflicting interests in differing senses of ethic.

Falcon-Price is still at Mount Thomas and, after realising the extent of Tom's bad health, orders him out on the road as Divisional Patrol Supervisor, seeing a chance to get rid of Tom by proving he is not fit for active duty. It looks as if this is true when Alex is stabbed by an escaped offender and it looks as if Tom is to blame. Falcon-Price convinces Alex to have Tom brought before the Medical Officer and, when Alex agrees, Falcon-Price uses this as ammunition to get Tom out of the force; but gets it blown up back in his face. Meanwhile, Jonesy and Amy are have difficulty finding their suspect and Kelly's jealousy is showing when she tries to find some negative information about Joss's new girlfriend.

Joss comes up with yet another money-making scheme and catches the gambling bug when a pickpocket victim he and Kelly help gives him a winning tip. Jonesy looks into a string of assaults at the local racetrack. Alex and Matt disagree when Alex plans to let a businessman slide on a shoplifting charge and Matt wants to play things by the book. Matt continually maintains that the shoplifter is planning something bigger and even goes to the extent of investigating him on his day off. After his treatment, Tom is forced to accept help from good friends as he recovers from his operation.

Tom secretly goes to Melbourne to receive treatment for his cancer, confiding only in Amy. Kelly, becoming uneasy about Tom's disappearance, consults Amy who ensures her Tom is out innocently fishing. Following Tom's disappearance, Inspector Falcon-Price gleefully takes over the operation of the station and also becomes suspicious about Tom's whereabouts, finally deciding to question Kelly. Amy begins to get frustrated when the Inspector does his utmost best to hinder her case of a brutal home invasion and assault. When hers and the Inspector's opinions begin to differ, Amy finds herself taken off the case. Alex, in a bid to keep Rory hidden from the Inspector, sends him out on the road with Susie and is terrified when he again goes missing.

Tom's health is further declining and he finally gives in to Amy's persistence and opens up to her. Jonesy and Alex become mixed up in a mysterious cult after they find a baby's remains in a firepit in the national park. Alex continues to struggle with the idea of fatherhood and is further discouraged when he makes a mistake that lands Rory in hospital. An elderly man is arrested for shoplifting various items which he intends to give to his girlfriend.

The Heelers are concerned about Tom's health and, despite Amy's nagging, Tom is still very reluctant to see a doctor and denies claims that he is unwell. In the midst of this, Tom becomes personally involved in the case of a young boy who is being bullied and tormented by his peers; this forces Tom to reminisce about his troubles as a child. Matt helps an old colleague of Tom's when he arrives at the station seeking help with an old case.

Tom, who is not well and is trying to hide it from his colleagues, meets an old friend who has been caught shoplifting and discovers that he was trying to please his ten-year-old daughter who is dying from leukaemia. Tom continues to refuse to see a doctor. Alex is struggling with the idea of being a father, and is further discouraged when his son, Rory, goes missing and is feared kidnapped by gunmen who've been taking shots at uniformed police officers. Finally, the Heelers find that the gunman was taking revenge on the police for the death of his son.

On his first day on the job Jonesy discovers that being a detective is harder, and more expensive, than he thought. When a woman alleges she was raped while under general anaesthetic, Jonesy fails to make any headway in the case forcing Amy to get involved to show him how it's done. Pushed out of the rape investigation, Jonesy focuses on solving a burglery at the home of a psychiatrist.

Matt finds a seriously battered man, the former mayor of St Davids, in the boot of a stolen car after a high speed chase. Mt Thomas CI investigates, but with Jonesy away at detective's training school, Amy finds good help hard to find. She strongly disapproves of Matt's aggressive approach to questioning witnesses, but who can she turn to? Kelly is too messy, Susie too nice, and Joss — well...

Matt's military past is revealed as he is investigated by his peers in relation to a murder, while Amy grudgingly notes Jonesy's potential as a detective. Meanwhile, suffering from post-traumatic stress, Kelly makes a serious error in judgement which leads to a harrowing showdown with her number one fan.

As Amy and Jonesy investigate a grisly murder, Matt forges ahead with his own line of inquiry. The growing suspicion surrounding the new constable appears justified when Matt's chief suspect is mysteriously murdered. Amy is faced with the prospect that one of the Heelers has crossed the line.

Matt's army service in East Timor complicates his dealings with a man who robs a video store. Amy follows up the latest sighting by a frantic mother still seeking the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that killed her daughter. Kelly cannot ignore Estelle White, the young woman who is obsessed with her.

On a Saturday morning, after the high school Formal, Amy and Jonesy investigate the death of a teenage girl, murdered, apparently by her friends.

Amy and Jonesy investigate when a recent lotto winner is found bashed and near death on a country road. They suspect his two gold-digging mates. What they don't expect is an admission that they were taking part in an assisted suicide. But what made the man with everything to live for want to die?

Mark agonises over his actions after his pursuit of a suspect ends in the young offender's death. His failure to protect himself against a physical threat from another offender is noticed by Susie, who starts to have doubts about his ability to do his job.

Mark befriends a young boy with great artistic promise during a routine investigation into thefts in Widgeree. However, when Mark breaks a promise under duress from his family, the boy turns against him, with tragic consequences.

Alex's belief that he is being victimised by his colleagues, and the media attention he is attracting, widens the trust gap felt by the police of Mt Thomas. Alex rejects offers of help and understanding from Jonesy, preferring to fight a losing battle against his idea of injustice. Joss is convinced he will be sacked for starting the whole thing, and drags his feet to avoid the inevitable confrontation with the boss.

Alex continues a struggle with paranoia after receiving a bullet taped to a transfer application form. Things become more desperate when petty criminal Terry Swanson exploits Alex's situation by involving the police bureaucracy, further inflaming tensions inside the Mt Thomas station. Joss, the one person who can remedy all this, lacks the courage to confront Alex or confess to the boss.

Susie starts a crusade to clear the name of a man accused of an attempted mass murder, by leaving a bomb at the hospital. Unfortunately her task is made harder by the fact that the man killed himself on that same day. Meanwhile, suspecting that her change in mood equals feelings toward him, Jonesy plucks up the courage to ask her out, and recieves a bit of a surprise...

The terror in Mt. Thomas reaches climax point as the serial killer strikes out at Amy. She survived one attack, but knows that whoever it is will kill again before the day is through. And PJ, still certain that the killer is Garth, is forced to prove or disprove his case to stop the killer before he kills again...

A father disowning his newborn baby leads Alex and Susie to suspect the mother, a schoolteacher, has been having an affair with a 14 year old schoolboy. At first both parties deny a relationship, but when they run away together, the case is all but proven, it seems the realtionship has been going on since the boy was 13. On his 13th birthday in fact. Meanwhile Joss feels sorry for a drunk he and Kelly find in the street and returns him home instead of charging him, overcoming the reluctance of his Russian speaking mother. Next day he finds himself in front of Tom—it turns out the drunk was completely unknown to the woman. Meanwhile, Alex and Susie are on a stakeout when Alex makes a move on her. Susie ends up sleeping with him, and seems to have fallen for him. The next day, though, Alex learns that Jonesy does like Susie - despite his protestrations - and so Alex makes the decision to back off. When the school teacher's husband comes to collect his wife and the newborn baby, it ends i

Raynor and Kirby investigate a reportedly missing girl that has everything she could ever want. But it seems she has been corresponding with an older male, and he may be ther eason behind her disappearance. Joss and Kelly also try to restart the bluelight basketball team. Kelly discovers one boy in the team had been dealing drugs. Joss gets the team interested in soccer and decides to set up a soccer club. He invites his brother to help. Toni then tries to seduce kelly. Tom also decides it is time to get something on Danny O'Keefe and instructs them to haul him in over anything. Kelly does and Tom is delighted. They can't get anything on him. PJ returns from a conference then Tom says he's going out. PJ needs to go again and tells Amy something more important has come up. PJ finds Tom at the soccer club next to Mr O'Keefe's car which has a broken window. PJ calms the storm then asks if Mr O'Keefe wants to press charges. PJ and Tom convince him not to.

After a home invasion strikes Mt. Thomas, PJ, Amy and Tom comfort the grieving O'Keefe family. What they don't expect is to learn that the father, Danny, has gangster connections and this isn't going down well with Tom's current attitude. And Susie is forced to bond with Alex, who is enjoying it immensely, when Jonesy is involved in a car chase with tragic results.

After the second SIDS related death in as many weeks occurs, PJ and Amy grow suspicious and investigate, only to find the town turning against them in its grief. Investigating a problem at the Imperial, Kelly is amused when Chris informs her that Joss has moved out to live with friends, and she forwards his mother's ""care packages"" to the station. Meanwhile Jonesy and Susie are held hostage and are saved by Senior Constable Alex Kirby - Lindy's replacement, and an old friend of Jonesy's.

The cops attempt to come to terms with what appears to be Tom's death. Amy suspects suicide but PJ thinks otherwise and, upon learning that Tarni Baxter had no idea of the accident, the two are set back a bit as to who committed the murder. What they don't expect is to find Tom alive in a seedy hotel, and although they attempt to help him, they soon realise that he may have been responsible for the death of whoever it was in his car. PJ and Kelly attempt to prove Tom's innocence but Amy and Roy think he may have gone over the edge. When they discover that Roy Holland is missing, it becomes likely that his body was in the car, and the knowledge that Tom suspended him, and that Roy may have suspected Tom of planting drugs on Ryan Dekker, leads Mark to accuse Tom of murder. Tom, meanwhile, is crazy with rage. He threatens Tarni by promising to plant her hair on the car and implicate her. However Shayleen Burke soon confesses that her father killed Roy after he discovered everything about

Joss attempts to break things off with Fay Tudor but she doesn't agree. What he soon realises however, is that he is attempting to break off with her because he actually likes the relationship for once. Kelly is riding high after she gets payback on sleazy Sergeant Holland, but it isn't long before he is trying his old tricks on another young woman named Shayleen, who is only 15. Tarni Baxter returns to town, and Tom is certain that she is desperate for vengeance after Tom's arrest of her family. While he and Tarni square off, he arrests her boyfriend Ryan for possession of drugs, only Mark is suspicious that he planted the drugs himself. Tom arrives home that afternoon to find his dog, Digger, viciously murdered. Kelly realises that Roy is dangerous and makes a formal complaint to Tom, who agrees with her and suspends Roy, who then threatens him. The next day Tom's rental car is found on a deserted road, completely destroyed by fire - and with a charred body at the wheel.

Joss discovers that Fay has a jealous husband and decides to break it off, until she makes him an offer; after a difficult confrontation, Kelly confides in Susie about Roy - leading to their decision to teach him a lesson; and PJ and Amy comes to loggerheads over who to arrest in a burglary and arson investigation.

Kelly's rejection of Sgt. Holland sees him treating her badly and continually giving her abuse. Amy realises what has happened but Kelly won't put in a complaint. When she finally does end up deciding to tell Tom, it is too late - for Roy's heroic actions in saving a suicidal kid from a deadly situation have made him a hero. Meanwhile, after rescuing an attractive older woman from a bicycle accident, Joss and Roy recieve a dinner invitation which ends unexpectedly; and PJ and Susie suspect an inside job when they investigate a robbery at a veterinary clinic and end up unravelling a deep family secret.

As the rape investigation continues, Inspector Draper arrives in town - worried that Tom is running amok. While Daniel evantually agrees to a DNA test, and is proven innocent, Tom loses his stepsons as they leave to live with their grandparents. Meanwhile, Joss, Jonesy and Kelly deal with a snake problem.

Mt. Thomas is inundated by a group of footballers, and it isn't long before a gang rape occurs, but what no one expects is for Tom's stepson Daniel to be implicated. Amy, in particular, seems to be particularly emotionally involved with the rape case. Meanwhile, Ben starts a dangerous spiral as he realises that Susie has truly rejected him, and he convinces himself that he is a failure as a policeman. While Ben contemplates suicide, he ultimately makes a noble choice by resigning and going to be with his children in Perth.

Jonesy is missing, and the general consensus is that he has run off with Donna. Only Susie is suspicious, and rightly so - since he has been shot and wounded, and finds himself being held captive by Louis Chang. Tom is at first unwilling to believe Susie, and is too busy with the investigation into police corruption into St. David's. Frustrated, Susie has no choice but to go undercover unoficially and Ben - of course - agrees to help her. Tom and the team investigate Inspector Falcon-Price but the evidence soon proves that he isn't guilty, and neither is Lucy Wu - who both Amy and Jonesy were suspicious of. As the day comes to a climax, Susie and Ben find themselves in a dangerous situation which they survive, but she ultimately breaks up with him. Jonesy has to do the same to Donna, and has her arrested. And Amy is stunned to learn that her friend Andrew Reid is the real corrupt cop at St. David's.

Donna is once again missing, but this time when she turns up she is high on cocaine, and Amy and Susie are desperate to know where she got it from. Meanwhile, Chris attempts to get someone to listen to her when she suspects there is a person hiding in her pub, and late one night she and Joss investigate and discover her ex-husband, Terry Kennedy, in the cellar. Kennedy came through decades earlier with his shearing mates and married Chris while she was still the publican's daughter, before eventually running off. She wants him out of town, and Tom agrees. The rest of the station is busy as usual: the disappearance of a pig and a dog causes an uproar; Ben and Susie - who appear to have begun a sexual relationship - seem to be at odds over where they are going next: Ben clearly wanting to go further, Susie not so sure; and Lucy Wu has been popping up at the station. An angry Jonesy goes to see Louis Chang but gets nothing out of him, however later the mobile phone with pictures of the il

Jonesy is stunned when Donna tells him that the people who hired Theo to kill Hugo Allen were in fact the police of St. David's. As he goes about investigating secretly, he learns that the police have not been caring about Allen's disappearance. When Amy finds out about his investigation, he is forced to get Donna to talk to her. Donna confesses that Louis Chang, a restaurant owner in St. David's, runs an illegal casino from his restaurant and she was a call girl there. She was with Hugo when he found himself in trouble with Chang, and subsequently Chang had his police buddies order Hugo's death. She had a mobile phone with pictures of the casino on it, but it was stolen when Jonesy's room was ransacked. Amy believes Donna's story, but decides not to tell Tom in case he, too, is corrupt. Jonesy and Amy go to Chang's posing as a dating couple, but are interrupted by Inspector Falcon-Price and St David's multicultural police liaison Lucy Wu, who are also dining there. Jonesy suspects tha

Jonesy finds his career on the line as he attempts to protect Donna, and so he is stunned when he learns that she is a call girl. When they are attacked by Theo, and Jonesy claims that Donna was abducted, Amy soon doubts his theory - thinking that Donna faked her abduction. Susie soon joins in on this theory, after Donna tells her that she has Jonesy now, and Susie can never have him back. Although Jonesy is allowed to return to work, and attempts to patch things up with the others, he is still seeing Donna - and is stunned when she tells him that a missing man named Hugo Allen was killed by Theo, and that Theo is actually a hired hitman.

Despite allegations by her ex-boyfriend Theo that she isn't all she appears to be, Jonesy stays firm to Donna in trying to protect her. She soon moves in with him. Only Susie is suspicious of Donna, a suspicion seemingly confirmed when Jonesy's room is trashed. He arrests Theo, whom Amy recognises from her time in Melbourne - he was involved in an assault on a known drug dealer. Tom agrees with Amy, and refuses to give Donna police protection since she may be involved. Jonesy is not happy, pleading with the others and ultimately storming out of the station to go and personally protect Donna. The cops begin to consider that they've gone too far, but a defiant Tom stands firm - Jonesy had better come back, or he'll be out of a job...

Tension is rife in Mt. Thomas. Joss and Kelly interrupt a girl who goes crazy in a store, and later find out that bad speed is being sold in the town. PJ and Nick are on bad terms over what they think of Tom's intentions, and Amy is just trying to get someone to let her help. Ben and Susie are acting professionally around each other, and Jonesy is annoyed about their dalliance. After clearing up the confusion about which Sergeant is for what (Ben is for Operations, Mark is for Administration), the DNA report comes back which concludes that Troy Baxter did meddle with Grace's car but, to prove he raped Grace, they must stop the funeral and take his body for DNA, which angers the Baxter family. Although it is proven that Troy did rape Grace, PJ begins to side with Nick that Tom may be overdoing it to suggest that the Baxters bombed the station. And - after Tom verbally assaults Barry Baxter - and suggests they are selling speed as well, PJ earnestly believes he has gone over the edge. In

Barry Baxter is on assault charges against Tom, and Chris is angry because she was forced to lie for Tom. She confronts him and then tells Susie that Tom needs help. Before Susie can process this, however, she discovers a suspicious package in the foyer, and the cops evacuate. It is revealed as a false alarm, and a simple extortion tactic from a man in need of money, but the threat only heightens the panic in Mt. Thomas. Susie and Evan make the horrifying discovery of about 50 dead kangaroos, looking to have been ripped apart with an automatic rifle. As debates rage over whether or not to thin out kangaroo numbers, the farmer who owns the land where the dead roos were found comes under suspicion. He denies it and suggests a mate he served with in Vietnam might be responsible for it, thinking that slaughtering the kangaroos might send a message to not have a cull. As the Heelers dig deeper, it is discovered that a cache of weapons from Vietnam had been kept, but when they come to seize them, some turn up missing. Now the race is on to find the weapons and whoever might be holding them.

Where he lived as a child, out near Lake End Mission, was the scene of his removing Kim Cook and her two brothers from their violent father. When Jonesy and Tess find Les Anderson's car parked on the roadside they don't expect to find him almost dead in his boot - the victim of a brutal bashing. Jonesy's failure to follow instructions has him on the back foot with Tess and leads her to conceal the fact that Les Anderson, the man Jonesy believes murdered his father, may be implicated in a death at a building site. Murder is suspected when the building's scaffolding is discovered tampered with. Did the victim's mate and his widow conspire to kill him? The victim's widow further implicates Anderson, but questions arise in regard to her integrity when his alibi proves watertight. Is the widow trying to protect her husband's best mate? Or did Jonesy pressure her to lie about Anderson? Jonesy's dogged determination to clear the widow's name leads him to the truth, but has he further damaged Tess' trust in him in the process?

Jo is determined to prove his innocence. Were the bookie and the trainer assaulted by the same person? Can Jo help the young stable hand find the strength to speak out?

Things are going much better now for Tess and Hayley, until an incident at school provides Tess with something to worry about while Tom and Reverend Grace grow closer. Meanwhile Tom suspects a retired thief guilty of burglary until he is questioned and the old man claims he was set up. The Heelers have a lead on another suspect and their hunt leads them to two teenage boys. One is the estranged son of the retired thief. Is he following in his father's footsteps? Tess' preoccupation with Jack's murder charge has to take a back seat when a young boy goes missing. His parents recently won the lottery and kidnapping is suspected. Jo becomes involved in the plight of a struggling cosmetics rep whose car has been stolen. The culprit turns out to be an angry teenager from a broken family. Tom and PJ clash as PJ investigate the increasing numbers of claims that the Doc has stepped over the line. For PJ, a copper is someone who swears to uphold the law, no ifs, no buts. Doctors swear to preserve life—there should be no difference between the two. But is there? When does relieving a terminal patient in extreme pain cross the line into a shortening of the patient's life? And who has the right to decide?

Cooper, who was dismissed by Tom for corruption, attempts to frame Tom and accuses him of illegally selling stolen firearms following the bombing of the former Mount Thomas police station; these are accusations that Inspector Falcon-Price is gleeful to hear and he readily accepts them and grants Cooper anything he desires. Tom also helps fellow cancer suffer, Gina, in her final days and Heelers are left to pick up the pieces. Alex and Amy must prepare for Tom's approaching case, which he seems to have no care for at all, and they are stretched to breaking point. After the accusations against Tom, the Inspector announces that the Mount Thomas station is to close and the Heelers start to find new jobs, facing the fact that they must leave Mount Thomas. Finally, Cooper's scheme is foiled, it is announced that the station is to remain open and the Inspector leaves, very disappointed.

""Keep your hand's off him and we'll be friends"" The new constable Maggie Doyle arrives in Mt. Thomas. She is faced with not only rampant chauvinism but the fact that she is stationed with ex-boyfriend Constable Wayne Patterson who has recently moved there with his wife Roz. Local girl Sally-Anne is raped by her boyfriend Bruce McLaren. She makes a formal complaint but when Bruce pressures her she attempts to withdraw it. When Sally-Anne discovers that this isn't possible she tries to commit suicide. Maggie and Nick find her and revive her. Maggie and Wayne go to speak to farmer Mick Doherty about his parking fines. When his dog breaks it's chains Maggie shoots her. Mick then starts firing at them. Tom is forced to go out and have a ""yarn"" with Mick and with the help of PJ gets Mick a new dog.

""Look here they brought in the dog squad, Annie Oakley and her mates"" Tom asks Chris Riley to identify the body of her ex-husband. Chris goes to the mortuary with the support of Tom and confirms that it is indeed her ex-husband Terry. Tom attends dawn parade for Anzac Day and Tom tells Chris that he saw Terry Kennedy at the dawn service. Chris tells Tom that his eyes are playing tricks on him and Tom responds that Chris has identified the wrong body. Chris tells Terry that Tom has seen him at the dawn service and it appears that Terry has $700.00 in outstanding fines. Chris tells Terry to take his fresh start and leave, Terry asks Chris to sell the pub and come away with him. Tom goes to the Imperial to see Chris and tells her to open the door or they can get a warrant instead. In the meantime Terry has escaped out of the window and down the drain pipe, but PJ is waiting for him. Tom tells Chris if he had buried the wrong man and not corrected the mistake it could have cost him his car

When a car crash victim turns out to be a battered wife, the Blue Heelers discover how difficult domestic cases can be when the woman refuses to press charges; Adam falls for Maggie.

It's Police Week in Mount Thomas and the station's doors are thrown open to the public and the Boss has drawn up a roster for the Heelers to take tours. Someone is harassing an elderly farmer. Roz becomes support officer. Roz has applied for the administration position at Mount Thomas station and the Boss informs her that she has been selected to be interview by him and the Inspector. The squad and PJ interview Mr Blakely regarding the break-in and the assault on him but he doesn't remember who attacked him and Maggie along with the squad search the premises again looking for new leads and they discover an earring that doesn't belong to Mrs Blakely. A call is taken by Roz that a women is being threatened by two armed men. Roz radios the squad and Maggie to let them know about it and they attend. It turns out the call was a false alarm and the Squad Sergeant takes his frustration out of Roz claiming that she sent them on a wild goose chase, questioning her ability to the job. Maggie has a visit at her room by the Squad Sergeant Cole and he a

When Maggie's reputation is put on the line when she arrests her boyfriend's boss, an MP, for drunken driving. Her father comes to Mt. Thomas to help sort it out.

""Madam, this is not the local beauty palour, its the police station"" Local farmer, Bob Crowley, is due to have his harvester repossessed. When Nick and Maggie escort the repo agent, Mr. Miller, to the farm arrive it's been stolen. There is lots of finger pointing. Later that day Miller and his mates beat up Crowley. Maggie has a word to Bob's daughter Grace. Turns out that Grace and her boyfriend had ""hidden"" the harvester so that her father could collect the insurance so he wouldn't lose the farm. Needless-to-say she is charged. Meanwhile local handyman, David Tufnel is found dead. Wayne learns the hard way that whoever signs the body over to the morgue has to assist with the autopsy. On the personal front, Roz is trying to establish a beauty parlour at the watch-keepers house. Wayne doesn't get around to asking Tom for permission and when women start ringing the station for facials Roz is found out. Tom spits the dummy and closes her down before she really starts.

Nick is called out to the railway station to investigate the abandonment of a baby. Nick and Maggie takes the baby to the hospital to be checked out. Nick instructs Maggie to put a call out for all the cabbies to call into the police station to be questioned about the baby. A couple turns up at the hospital claiming that the baby is there's. PJ requests that they show some identity before they will release it into their care. After questioning the couple down at the station, Maggie and PJ establish that the baby does not belong to them. Nick takes a call from the baby's mother and in Maggie's mind she believes that he handle

Panic sweeps Mt. Thomas when an outbreak of an animal disease begins to kill humans. When Maggie suddenly collapses, PJ is desperate not to let the disease, which has already claimed two lives, take his beloved Maggie.

There are mixed reactions among the Heelers to Chris's plans. Tom feels that she's rushing into things, a sentiment echoed by Chris's cousin, Dominic, who doesn't approve of Sean, sure that he's just trying to cash in on the Imperial's lucrative business. She is strenuously complaining about the actions of her colleagues. While the Heelers persuade the boys to return the vehicle to its owner, Maggie and Dash believe Molly has been the victim of systematic victimisation. With Tom's consent they return to the shop to warn off the foreman and his mates, but their pleas fall on deaf ears. They are soon back at the shop in answer to a fire alarm only to find a soaked Molly who has set off the sprinkler system after being locked in the changing rooms. It seems someone has stolen the boss's keys to shut her in, but were they just intending to keep Molly trapped or were they keeping her on ice for other, more sinister reasons? That is until Vi Chisholm is knocked over and her bag is stolen and Greg Anderson reports that his hardware shop has been damaged. Adam is sent to investigate the disturbance at Anderson's Hardware while Maggie and Dash bring Vi Chisholm in to ask her a few questions. Upon investigating the Hardware store Adam discovers that the damage only amounts to the dislodgement of a rack of keys, the perpetrator allegedly Zac Taylor, a recently fired employee. Dean, Greg Anderson's son, claims that Zac was fired because he never did his job properly and that he had threatened to harm Greg after being fired. Deciding to question Zac himself, Adam finds him washing car windscreens at a stop sign, and brings him into the

Nick is manning the desk when a young man, Gavin Stone, comes in to report that his father's car has been stolen. This doesn't seem too out of the ordinary until a horrified Dash states that Gavin Stone is the scarecrow and his father the Troll. Elaborating on local legend, Dash explains that the Troll and his son have been feared by every child in the district for many years, even now the scarecrow gives her the creeps. Maggie encounters Gavin Stone as he is leaving the station. She looks at his car—it is falling apart as they speak. Gavin pleads with her to give him a chance to repair it, as it is now their only way of getting around. Although Maggie lets him off with a warning she is later forced to register the car unroadworthy. Meanwhile, PJ is investigating a series of car thefts from the supermarket parking lot. Each theft victim seems to have a similar description of a man that they saw loitering at the scene. Tom firmly believes that these are not isolated random thefts; they

What seems to be a case of petty theft turns into an investigation of a two year old kidnapping when Maggie and PJ realise that a fingerprint found on a stolen figurine bought at a local car-boot sale actually matches one found on the ransom note. In no time the wealthy parents of the missing child, Helen McMurtrie, arrive in town and start demanding action. Felicity, the mother, is particularly anxious, and when she runs into an old acquaintance, Siobhan Kennedy hairdresser and witch, she insist that the police employ her as a clairvoyant. Much to Tom's surprise, Siobhan refuses; it's not what she does. But the McMurtrie's offer of a $50,000 reward brings another clairvoyant contender into the station. This is Magda Lupescu, who introduces herself as a Romanian Gypsy. Under skeptical police supervision, Magda uses a bracelet belonging to the missing child to perform psychometry over a local map. She assures the Heelers that if they search in a particular spot, they will find evidence

A spate of false security alarms is keeping the Heelers on their toes. Tom is becoming increasingly frustrated with the owner of the alarm company, Roland Halliday, and his inefficiencies. If the Heelers are constantly being called to false alarms they will have little time left to pursue real crimes. Meanwhile, Adam is involved in a more pressing matter. His mate ""Croc"" Perry has been involved in an incident at the local fast food shop. Adam keeps him out of hot water and also makes amends with the shop proprietor, earning his gratitude - Adam's burgers from now on are free. Tom is unimpressed with Adam for exercising poor professional judgment by associating with the likes of Croc. Tom's disaffection worsens when Adam brings in free hamburgers for all the Heelers. In Tom's view accepting ""gifts"", no matter how small, is skating a little too close to corruption; nothing is free in this world.

Ben becomes the victim of anti-gay slurs when his hairdresser friend, Tony, arrives in town. Prejudice builds however, when Tony's popularity wilts the opposition and happy clients confide their closest secrets to him. Someone it seems, confided too much, and Ben finds Tony dead in the salon stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors.

Nothing is what it seems when a woman rushes into the Mt. Thomas police station claiming a man has kidnapped her children. As a custody battle unfolds between the feuding parents, Ben's work eerily starts to mirror his private life. Shattered by the news that his ex-wife plans on taking his kids to Perth, he is determined to go to any lengths to keep them in Victoria.

Chris has finaly pulled through and got the first Mount Thomas Blues Festival up and running. There are thousands of tourists in town but the predictions are for heavy rain. The festival may be ruined and Chris has been pushing her hardest for months to get this thing going. Jo is not excited at the prospect of Blues, but Jonesy and Tess certainly are. Among the singers are legends Charlie Bell and Butch Jordan who was Tess's favourite singer as a child. Jo is even more angry when Ben injures himself at basketball and she must take over his shift, missing out on her weekend off. Farmer Roy Haiseman begins firing at a trespasser whom Jonesy soon discovers is Butch Jordan himself. One of only two roads to the festival goes through Roy's property and Roy is against the idea. Or, as Tom puts it, Roy is against the idea that Chris beat him in the council election. When PJ's mother arrives in town with Stefan, her boyfriend, PJ takes an instant dislike to him. A scandal erupts when three generations of a family begin fighting over the eldest woman's pottery collection ,especially two expensive pieces named 'Jack' and 'Jill' but when forgery and theft become part of the case, the Heelers are baffled. Meanwhile, Helena is torn between her son and her lover and when she sends Stefan away and decides to stay with PJ he questions why. Then he learns the truth - she has been diagnosed with cancer and has 2, maybe 3, months to live.

PJ, unwanting and unwilling to deal with his mother's imminent death, throws himself into the murder of a convicted kidnapper whilst serving life. Jo and Ben set about the task of convincing him to talk to his mother about it. But he refuses and throws himself further into his work, which pays off when he discovers there is something suspicious about both the kidnapping and the murder and Jo has to agree there are too many coincidences. But when PJ solves the case and sees a son and mother reunited he decides to be with his mother until the end and to share her pain.

As Helena moves closer to her end, PJ is desperate for her to continue living. While he seeks out alternative treatments when she refuses the radio-therapy, Chris, Tom and all his friends try to convince him it is time for his mother to die. Helena just wants him to accept Death. He is conflicted more as she turns to religion, something he doesn't believe in. But she is praying more for him and to help him sort out his life. Meanwhile, Benny Matthews' latest love affair with a 15 year old is not going down well with her father, who demands action be taken. When PJ tells Benny to stop seeing the girl it just makes her angrier and she moves in with him. The Heelers and Kimberley's father are worried Benny will get the girl onto drugs. Helena gives Ben a note to give to PJ when she is dying. It tells him to let her die in peace and not to prolong her life. He continues to seek treatments for her even when she tells him not to. A depressed PJ returns to work following Helena's death. Although all the Heelers want him to take more time off he is sure that he is fine and it won't affect his work. Meanwhile a well-off builder's wife goes missing. Her car is found near the river, but she's not. Gary Parker seemingly had the perfect life with the perfect family - wife Catriona and two small children. But it seems not. The Heelers think it may be suicide but PJ thinks the husband might be involved. They discover that she filled up her petrol and had her hair and nails done just before she disappeared and PJ thinks this disputes the suicide theory, as does the fact it is almost her son's birthday and she wouldn't kill herself just then? Soon she is linked to a man convicted for fraud who now does sketches, and a murderer on the run and soon lives are at risk. But how can the Heelers prevent anything from happening? The police are invited to an old-time charity dance. Ben takes a St. Davids Officer, Shelley Piper. However her separated husband, Peter Baynes, a sergeant and Inspector Falcon-Price's ""golden boy"" believes he has ownership of his ex-wife and, when he is very drunk, starts a fight with Ben. Tom and Falcon-Price find Ben in the toilets having just punched Baynes. Falcon-Price naturally believes Baynes and Ben knows that his past history of violence (e.g. when he punched an officer and got demoted) is not working in his favour. Baynes agrees to not press charges but Ben knows that Falcon-Price thinks he should be suspended. Tom, Jo and the rest believe Ben however, who says he was just defending himself. Shelley tells Ben that all Baynes wants is to continously be seen as the good guy in the Inspector's eyes. Ben discovers that Baynes may have a psychological problem. An aspiring ballerina is injured in a car crash and Jo seeks justice. However, the young driver of the other car, who is also wanted on theft, is determined to go free and not have a blemish on his reputation as he is studying law.

It is an interesting time in Mt Thomas for couples - together and not together. While PJ and Liz enjoy a secret romance, Tom and Grace enjoy their not-so-secret romance and Tess and Jonesy struggle to hold back their all too obvious feelings for each other. An Elvis auction brings out ""Gossie"" Goss (last seen in 8x25 ""Dinosaurs""), a fellow copper and friend of Tom's. When he buys a $6000 scarf which he can't afford, all for his girlfriend Barbara, Tom is worried. Barbara has no money either and is spending all her time doing some heavy petting with Gossie while her disgusted teenage daughter Laura pays the bill.

A friend of Jo's, science teacher Deniz Gulmez, is accused of hurting Rufus Sedgwick, a boy in her class. The two witnesses - Emily Larson and Jason McKendry, hate each other so it seems neither of them would be working toeghter. Even the principal, Mrs. Ellis believes them. Jo thinks this is because she is a racist bigot.

A domestic at the church finds Jonesy's mate's wedding coming to a standstill. Geoff Vincent and Charmian Blakeney are planning to get married the following day but her father Ned is fighting with his ex-wife Hilary and her young lover Damian. To add to this, the best man - Wolfie Schmidt is having serious troubles. The wedding rings are missing, one of which was Ned's mother's. Sleazy jeweller Harold Craig has no idea where they are either, and although the Heelers have suspicions, he can't help them.

Jonesy's honest handling of a paternity claim against him and the claims by two women for the possession of a ten year old girl, expose more of Tess' feelings about Jonesy, as well as her own insecurities.

When the victim of a motor accident claims his good Samaritan is trying to kill him, and two local farmers who have lost their mother suddenly come into money and their life changes, Tess and Jonesy have to learn to work together again when a dangerous situation occurs. Meanwhile, Liz is endangered and PJ has to come to terms with how serious he is about her, but she decides to go back to Melbourne. However there is definitely some unfinished business between these two... And Jo studies for her upcoming Senior Constable exam, will she get it?

Jo invites herself to live in PJ's house, but fails to let him know. While PJ tries to persuade her to move out, a decision made by Jo in good faith has unforeseen and very serious consequences when an intellectually disabled man is accused of burning down a sheltered workshop. Jo refuses to believe the accusation, but her fight to prove his innocence and return him to his home places further pressure on his mother with tragic results. Jo is distraught, and PJ's efforts to comfort her turn into something neither of them expected.

A private school teacher is found dead on the outskirts of town of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. But Jo suspects something more and believes it was murder. Meanwhile she and PJ have to face each other after waking up in bed together, both uncomfortable over what has happened. When the discovery of a drug Belladonna, or ""Naked Lady"" is found in his system, Jo persists to find out the secrets behind this man's life and who killed him and her persistence is what ends up finding the real killer. She also recieves an award for saving Falcon-Price in 8x24 An Inspector Calls. However she is worried PJ doesn't feel anything after what they did. They finally discuss it and realise that working and living together is enough and that a relationship would ruin their friendship.

Ben is personally affected by the tragic death of an infant in a motor accident. He believes he's found the drunken culprit but the suspect has a different tale to tell. As Ben tries to get to the truth, he uncovers a scandal involving Grace's congregation. Grace finds herself under attack from a mystery assailant, but resists Tom's attempts to protect her. She also rejects a proposal of marriage made for all the wrong reasons forcing Tom to examine his true feelings for her.

PJ finds himself at loggerheads with Jo over her sympathy for a woman on work release from prison. The arrival in town of her son and defacto husband leads PJ to suspect that the woman is still involved in their criminal activities. His views seem to be confirmed when she escapes from prison, but Jo discovers she has a different motivation, and together she and PJ must try to save her son's life. After agreeing to be 'just good friend' PJ naturally assumes Jo will now be moving out of his house, but Jo has different ideas.

Tess and Jonesy clash when a man accuses his estranged wife of trying to kill his girlfriend by poisoning her breakfast jam. When they question the wife, she counter-accuses her husband of product tampering and extortion. Tess empathises with the wife, who is an independent woman like herself, running her own jam making business. Jonesy, on the other hand, feels the husband is misunderstood. Despite a product recall, the Heelers realise there is a second jar of poisoned jam out there somewhere which must be found before someone dies
