S1 Ep1
Our first official episode. So why not on a rooftop? Winnipeg based Nathan appeared on the roof of a warehouse condo thanks to our hosts Carrie and Curtis. It was a pretty cool evening as the sun set and the city backdrop changed through the night.
S1 Ep2
Performing solo from a deep catalogue of SOTW and his own music, John Mann, the front man for Spirit of the West, put on an amazing show. His solo performance had the audiences undivided attention as he played songs from his solo albums and classics from the SOTW songbook.
S1 Ep3
Perhaps one of the more awkward set ups for a house concert but what the hell.... The house may have been ‘between renters’ but we occupied the place fully. By the time Leeroy started his show, the place felt like a home...with a beer fridge.
S1 Ep4
The duo filled this funky house with a full, satisfying sound. Wil’s powerful performance made it obvious why people react the way they do to his concerts. Put him in a 60’s retro, architect, designed show home and the evening becomes kinda surreal and magical at the same time.
S1 Ep5
It’s hard to describe a Little Miss Higgins show. Generally speaking, most people, including myself, do not have an adequate, knowledge of the genre of music presented by this duo to say they sound kinda like ‘blank’ or have you ever heard ‘blank’. That doesn’t matter. They are fabulously entertaining in so many ways. True sports and a joy to listen to.
S1 Ep6
Those who knew him were not disappointed and those who were unfamiliar with his particular brand of magic, well let’s just say that everyone at the show was blown away. Powerful, almost hypnotic at times in the way he completely engaged all your senses. What a pro and what a sense of humour!
S1 Ep7
Suzie showed why she is always at the forefront of blues in Canada. Appearing fresh off an album release - "Happy Here" - as well as a Juno nomination, the range and variety of Suzie's solo work kept the audience entertained as she filled the house with her gorgeous voice.
S1 Ep8
This husband and wife duo are seen here perfecting their unique onstage harmony. They set up in the basement by the fire and Luke and Melissa thrilled the audience with their beautiful harmonies and inspiring musicianship.
S1 Ep9
With a great off stage sense of humour and a professional stage presence, Jason shows his chops for the intimate crowd.
S1 Ep10
“Are we rolling?” Talk about prolific! This guy has so many songs in his repertoire he hasn’t had time to document hundreds of them.
S1 Ep11
“Strangely enough, you’re invisible on the street.” An admired songwriter and singer who provided an extremely entertaining set that the homeowners did not want to end. Nothing like a little kitchen set to wrap up the night.
S1 Ep12
“It’s a strange kinda world that’s largley soft porn...” This multi talented performer presented a dense, visual performance that showcased his amazing talents. His mischievous manor and biting wit accompanied with the visual element of his show made for a unique sensory experience.
S1 Ep13
“Who’s the dog?” Well, with a sudden flurry of activity, this ended up being our final house concert for season one (or so we thought at the time - see Suzie Vinnick). Stephen’s professionalism and amazing talent thrilled everyone in attendance.
Amazing Canadian musicians perform in unique house concerts settings as well as an in depth exploration of their world outside the concert, in the studio, on the road and just surviving and creating day to day. Each episode weaves a house concert performance with behind the scenes, studio and interview footage as well as the occasional archival clip to learn more about the artists and their world.
